Mount Sinai Med. Center Orientation

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey everyone!

I am new to the site and I have searched for information on this topic but I haven't seen any current info about Mount Sinai's orientation process. Has anyone recently gone through their orientation? I am a new grad and I start October 10th and I'm excited and nervous at the same time! If anybody has any info, it'll be greatly appreciated! =)

How much does Mt. Sinai pay per hour for new grads? I heard the two week orientation consisted of mock codes, pharm and med math test but they give you a study packet

Mt Sinai pays $38.00 base plus $0.66 an hour for BSN..

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

thanks NurseFairy! I have heard great things about Mount Sinai and I'm hoping it all works out smoothly when I start.

aikz, yes, I graduated with my BSN and I do know for sure that Mount Sinai will not hire ASN who are not matriculated into a BSN program and who will graduate within the year (I asked my nurse manager to see if my brother who is an Associate degree nurse could also get an interview but nope..) They are looking to renew their Magnet status, that is why they prefer BSN. They also discussed how accommodating they are with people who are going back to school, scheduling their shifts around their classes so that's great. Also having those connects can be very helpful. Just ask them to speak to their managers and see if any openings are available when you do have your NY license.

Thanks. Yea, like I said my mom has a friend who's an NP there in Mt. Sinai. But I don't know if that's good enough. I only have an associate degree, but I do plan to get my BSN starting in the Spring. I think right now the best thing for me to do is get some experience first....I start working next week.

does anyone know if they're paying us for attending the mandatory new beginnings day one orientation?

I work at Sinai and I'm so happy that some of you guys got hired. Imwas getting depressed reading about how hard new grads were finding the job market. Yup you get paid for everyday of in class orientation. I think the starting pay total comes to a out mid 80's ( $85,000) annually. Ummm I forgot the other questions but fire away. I'm all ears.

Hi

Just wondering do you know how long the whole hiring process takes? I've applied online and I feel like it's taking so long to get any response. I'm getting nervous that I will never find a job. I graduated in May and took my boards in September. I have my BSN. The whole job search thing has been so stressful, I'm getting nervous and depressed.

the fact that your mom knows someone at Monty...good for you:)

but to come here and post it don't you think it might be a slap in the faces that can't find work even with BSN? just a thought..

Hey Risa,

It took me about a month and a half for the entire process from applying to interviewing to getting the job so yeah, it'll take a while. During orientation, the nurse recruiters came in and told us that for each position available there are about 400 applicants and for new grad positions there are more like 900 applicants for each one. So yes, you may not receive any info or callbacks due to the high volume of applicants but don't get discouraged, you might be one of the lucky few to get through! Apply everywhere and anywhere that has an opening and even apply for units that you personally might not want because although I preferred peds or L&D, I ended up on a med-surg unit. Good luck on your search!

This salary is after night diff right? Lol and jw, what kind of unit are you on? And how do you like it? Just after a couple of days of orientation, I already feel like I'm going to really love Mount Sinai because they are very supportive and want us to be successful.

Hello NYCRN89.

I have an interview with Mount Sinai on Monday with a Med-Surg unit, I was wondering what do the managers look for and what are the most important things I should express in the interview.. This is my third time interviewing with the hospital, but the recruiter is really trying to help me land the job...i would love any help plss...and congrats on your new job!

Hey Samrn9862!

I am a new grad as yourself and I am truly discouraged with the job market out here in NYC. I have left a message for the recruiter, e-mailed, left my resume and a few references in person a couple times and still nothing at Mount Sinai!

I am just curious to know how did you get the attention of the nurse recruiter?

Any info would be great!

Thanks!!
