Medgar Evers RN-BSN, fraud?

U.S.A. New York

I am currently searching for a BSN RN program. I'm already an RN. For the past month, I've been trying to get Medgar Evers to review my transcript to help me make the decision on attending their school. Everyone I have spoken to at admissions and nursing dept. has given me one answer: "The information is online. We do not provide career advisement unless you are a student enrolled in the college. We do not and cannot review your credits. Once you are accepted to the school we will review your credits and tell you what you need to know". BTW, this is said with MAJOR attitude by most of the staff I have spoken to.

Every other BSN program I've inquired about has info sessions and reviewed my credits. No hassle. I'm beginning to believe that SOMETHING IS FISHY about this program/school! Their response is strange, to me. I think that their program is not what they say it is. They are the only nursing school I am aware of which has not joined alliance with any other cuny associate nursing degree programs. When I went to the cuny transfer credit site, NONE of my associate cuny credits are transferable.. It's probably because, at Medgar Evers, if you are a transfer student you will have to take way more classes (= more money for them) than advertised.

Is anyone familar with this school? Have you had the same experience? IMO, Administration is horrible. I no longer have plans to register with them.

Well I don't think Medgar Evers needs an agreement with a CUNY Associate degree program because they have their own 2 year associate degree program. It might be one of those things where the program is usually designed for people that did THEIR associate degree program and they're just really suckish about handling transfer students. I went to their website and the BS program website doesn't even work which is pretty unprofessional if you ask me. I do find it weird about the CUNY credits because unless you took some OUT OF THIS WORLD kind of classes, I don't see why they wouldn't transfer some basic courses inbetween CUNY institutions.

CUNY is complicated. Some schools in CUNY are better that others and that includes customer sevice from admin. The transferring of classes/credits between schools depends on what the school you are transferring to deem as satisfying their, requirements for graduation. All the schools have similar "college wide core" classes required for graduation. Some call them base courses etc.

What satisfies in one school may not satisfy in another CUNY school. It has been my experience to be accepted before an evaluation can be done.

Please try another school if you can. Please. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies! It's frustrating when the people (medgar evers admins) providing this info are so rude! Suny Downstate/hunter are my first choices but their program begins in late 2011 or 2012. I'm also considering st joseph and the other saint school ...lol I want to start the bachelors program no later than spring 2011. Has anyone tried NY city Tech?

I am also an Associates Degree RN, I just started BSN program at CUNY-CSI (College of Staten Island) this semester. They seem to be helpful and they want to provide as much information about their program as possible. I don't know why that is not the case with Medger Evers. CSI also have online classes which I think is a big plus! This may be something u want to look into. Whichever college you plan on applying to, I would suggest that you personally go to their Nursing dept and meet an adviser with an unofficial transcript in your hand so they can guide you appropriately.

Good Luck !

That's exactly what I plan on doing. I think new york city tech, lehman and york are my current options now. I have 'til sept 14 to decide...

How do you like the program so far? How long is the program, generally? I might consider that school, too?

I am two weeks into the program, and so far its good. We have to do a lot of papers, essays etc, but that's in every BSN program. I am going on full-time basis. The best part is although I am taking 13 credits, I only go to college once a week. Two of the courses r online n the other two are on campus on one day. This works out even if I get a job during the semester (if it'll be possible at all with the way economy is going). The way I see it, it should be once a week, till I graduate. It will take me about 3 semesters total to complete, but that's because I have fulfilled other general requirements of this college while I was doing my AAS ( during summers n winters) such as Chem1, Chem2, Physics, Statistics, Pharmacology, History, etc. But I would think for someone who is starting BSN with no prior BS courses, it should take about 5 semesters.

BTW. The deadline is Sept 15 to apply for Spring '11. Since u can choose up to 6 schools on the CUNY application at once, I suggest u apply to all Six. When you have decided which one is right for YOU, choose that one. Don't wait around just because you're not sure which one u want to go to.

Best of luck!

You are only allowed to apply to four schools and only one will send you an acceptance letter. I believe it has always been that way. I still haven't decided on what to do yet. I'm still researching. I will make up my mind before wednsday morning, for sure.

Thanks for all the info.
