Does anyone know if Methodist has 8 or 12 hr shift?

NYM does hire AAS, but they have a very competitive selection. I am a nurse extern as well and have been told thats huge for your experience level.

I know Maimonidies pretty well. My mom works there and alot of my good friends work there as nurses in the NICU and PICU. There is a large turnover, depending on the floor. The peds and L&D are awesome. Med-Surg not so hot.. and from my own experience... I was pregnant with twins and was constantly in the hospital for PTL. The L&D staff was awesome. The ante-pardum floor was ok.. but the post-pardum floor was basically the worst place I have ever been. It felt like I was in 3 diff hospitals.

But I was talking to one of my friends and they are floating people all over the place. And they are offering floats and agency temp nurses $68 an hour. So... it depends on what youre looking for. If you are looking to be happy and stay in one spot, I would pick NYM. If you like floating around and looking to make $$, Maimonidies should be an option. Good luck!

Wow that is great, but I have AAS degree and I applied to both of these hospitals and they did not call me, guess is because I do not have any experience.

I am also very curious about these Brooklyn hospitals. I'm actually relocating from California to Brooklyn area. Can anyone tell me what hospitals they would suggest and any other info I might need. Would you say there are many RN jobs at these hospitals? I would really appreciate it.

i work at NYM its a pretty good hospital to work for in my oppinion. most of the staff is very helpfull to the new nurses and they do their best to help them go though the transition of orientation to bein on our own. its no easy job there though because they have a shortage of nurses in the hospital on average the nurses have 8 to 10 pts; but we still manage. the hospital is computerized so charting is done on the computer and the MAR is also on the computer. on the other hospitals i dont know much about, but this is what i have to say about NYM.

I have looking at some of the Brooklyn Hospital websites online and the job listings are slim. Does anyone know if the job listings are listed elsewhere- say a temp agency? On location at the hospitals? How did you guys find your jobs? Also, I have been hearing about "hiring freezes" due to budget cuts and because of the state of our economy. Has that been happening in New York?

Hi! would love to hear some info on Lutheran medical center in brooklyn...do they take new grads into specialty or should i just apply to med surg...is a good place to work in? how's the orientation? is it in a good area? what about the salary?? thanx!

Well, I recently got hired at Lutheran. From what I have seen, it seems like a great place to work. People are friendly, and everyone seems happy to be there. There is very low turnover at Lutheran, so that should tell you something. As for the area, it is in Sunset Park, which used to be very dangerous but has improved dramatically over years. It's no Park Slope, but I am not from NYC, and I feel pretty safe there during the day. Not sure what it is like at night though, as I have not been there after dark.

Without knowing what other NYC hospitals pay, or offer for benefits, I can't say how they stack up. I will say that, compared to other places I have worked, Lutheran seems to treat its employees VERY well.

Of course, it could just be the newbie pollyanna in me talking, but I don't think so.
