Also, do you know anything about Methodist (park Slope) or Lutheran Hospital?

this is really helpful - thanks! when you do research like this - how do you do it - just go ahead and call the nursing recruitment office?

it all varies from how much experiences do you have. they would gradly take new grads to med-surg, motherbaby, labor and delivery, peds, nicu, but not the er. i'm not quite sure about icu either.

Still a nursing student but keep in touch with some grads. Maimonides hired 3 recent grads for the night shift. Starting salary for AAS was 62,000. 12 hour shifts. Dont know the ratios though.

Well speaking only from experience as a patient and NYC resident, Methodist has a very good reputation for patient care and Maimonides does not.

i believe NYM offers a good length orientation for a med-surg floor. the problem i think with NYM is the patient ratio. between 10-13 patients. i am on a floor that carries 10-1 max. don't know if i am lucky or not. anyhow, pay for a night rn is about 68,000 with an a.a.s. with a b.s.n. add $750 extra.
I heard that the new NYSNA contract at Methodist means the new nurse-patient ratio should be no higher than 1:8...Is this true? Thanks.

I am working in Labor and Delivery at Lutheran and they are hiring and they accept new grads into speciality areas. My frined is the niurse manager for SICU. They have a good orintation and not a high turnover. I have been a RN for about 10 years now and I have went to NYM and Maimodes and I would reccomend Lutheran.

Thanks Kim,
Why did you like Lutheran more than Methodist? I went for an interview at Methodist and the place is gorgeous and the patient records--including medication administration records--are computerized...Also, their pay for night shift is MORE than Sloan-Kettering night shift and Lenox Hill night shift; Methodist also makes contributions to the nurse Pension Plan whereas Sloan-Kettering does not.....Starting salary for a new grad BSN night shift is $71,702! Plus, it's in pretty Park Slope...
