I am so tired of applying to hospitals

U.S.A. New York

I have been applying to hospitals ever since I passed the boards one year ago. I get rejection after rejection. I have gone in person to multiple locations, job fairs, no luck. So frustrating. I hold on two jobs at Nursing Homes. Although I am very thankful that I at least have jobs to go to, I always feel my license is on the line working in these places. Maybe when I get my BSN something will open up. I have only one class left which I will complete in July. Discouraging but I am not giving up. I just keep applying every where online, fax and I make calls. If I knew back then what I know now, maybe I would have done something else. NYC is tough to land an RN position.

Would applying to neighboring states be an option (if you're close enough)?

Hang in there. When I first got my license I only had an associates degree. Literally no hospital hires with an associates except for 1 that I know of on Long Island. Until then gain experience at the nursing home and then apply at hospitals.

What MsRNny said, Just Hang in there. I have been applying for just 2weeks but becoming impatient already. Now, I feel terrible for complaining. I guess my advice is to just keep trying and don't give up. I have just received an offer at a small outpatient surgery clinic but I got a really low offer (25/hr) since i do not have any experience. Should I be grateful to receive an offer, I probably should.

Hopefully I will get something. I am at 2 nursing homes per diem so no benefits. At least the rates are very good. 38 and 39 per hr. I will be done with my BSN in 8 weeks so hopefully I stand a better chance then. Thanks

Ladies, been there! As an associate RN, I got NO CALLBACKS. I applied multiple times to the health systems here in NYC and Westchester. Job postings that said "new grads welcome" or those where I met the minimum requirements. Rejection after rejection. So, after 6 months I started as an RN in private duty nursing. And signed up for a BSN program. Now that I've finished the BSN program and considered tristate hospitals..things are looking up. NYC is just a tough market. I've had friends who were lucky and somehow got a callback but there's a lot of us that don't get our start in the hospital. It's better to get experience somewhere as an RN..homecare, school nursing, outpatient than sitting at home broke. Finish your BSN, support yourself financially and be open to commuting 30minn-1hr out for a position in acute care.

Yes definitely need the BSN here in NYC. 1 year nursing home + BSN should be okay.

It is tough.

I suggest the following:

1. Apply for jobs in Jersey City, NJ

2. Join the ANA & the AACN which will make your application look better

3. Do the free CEUS with AACN (shows you care about keeping abreast of new standards)

4. Apply to hospitals that accept Associate Educated nurses

5. Pay the $300 for an online Critical Care course

I hope the best for you. Happy Hunting!

I disagree with 2 & 3. Joining the organization just show you can pay for association fee. They will prob not going to look at the CE
