Hunter is getting on my last nerve!

So I got accepted to Hunter, but to the general school (not nursing yet) since you have to be enrolled before applying to nursing and I need a few science prereqs done. Turns out they don't evaluate my credits until after I accept their acceptance. So I don't know if I will need to take any additional gen ed courses. I have a BS degree already, so if anyone knows, please let me know. Also, I need to take the first Chem course in the summer in order to be on time with my prereqs, and since Hunter is not offering it, I'm taking it at Nassau Community College. Asked Hunter if they can confirm that the course I chose at NCC is the right one to meet their requirement and they won't even do that! I mean, I can spend time and money taking a course that may not even get accepted by Hunter. This is ridiculous! I pretty much decided to just take the year's worth of prereqs at Hunter and then apply to Pace or NYU accelerated programs. This whole thing is just so frustrating.

I went to Hunter for my degree in Science Education. My suggestion is to talk to an advisor in the Chemistry department. Bring a copy of the other college's syllabus if you can. Ask for an 'unofficial' decision. Since you're not matriculated yet, you should be able to transfer it in but verify that too with Hunter.

Welcome to the CUNY system. This is the type of service that "cheap" gets you. Be prepared to do alot of calling around and also make sure you go in to the nursing department prepared with all of the questions you need. They will not volunteer info. to you, you have to rake it out of them. I graduated from a cuny school with a Bachelor's and I know first-hand the non-sense that goes on with the cuny schools.

I am back in the CUNY system again taking pre-reqs, and I was fortunate enough to talk to an advisor (for transfer students) over the phone prior to coming in to register. Well I'm taking A&P1 this summer and I didn't want to have to take BIO (which is a pre-req for A&P1 - I already had 2 prior science classes from my bachelor's). Well I had the kid who registered me refer to the advisor who I spoke to over the phone previously and she remembered my name and "allowed" me to register for A&P1 without taking BIO - however she did say that the description from my previous science courses are similar to BIO. - Though I can tell she really was doing me a favor.

It's all luck of the draw with CUNY. It all depends on who you're dealing with at the time if they will be helpful or not.

I however, don't know If I'll even bother to apply for their nursing program (with all of the non-sense). My eyes are currenlty set on PBISON, LICHSON, and SVMCC. Maybe If I make myself known to the nursing dept. that might help.

BTW, I spoke to a recent grad of NYC tech's nursing program and she told me to make sure I make myself "seen" at the nursing dept.- to kind of get the advisor's to know me. - She said it could help out alot. I suggest you do the same.:icon_roll

What???? There's a BIO prerequisite? I had no idea! It's not in the course description for A&P. The person I spoke with didn't say there was a BIO prerequisite either.

Let me clarify: There was a BIO pre-requisite for the CUNY school I'm attending, but since I already had "a science" class previously the advisor let me register for A&P1 without having to take BIO. I was just giving my experience about "speaking to the right people" in order to get the most help. I was fortunate to have an advisor be nice enought to let me register without the required pre-req. I was making a point of that things like that doesn't happen often in CUNY - you have to be fortunate enough to deal with the right kind of people, and I was fortunate enough to encounter someone so nice and willing to help me out.

I'm not sure about Hunter's pre-reqs though, I was just stating that in general the CUNY staff/faculty/administration will give you the run around and will have you jumping through hoops. Just do a search here "cuny", and you'll see what I mean....

I graduated Hunter in 08' and would not be back. A piece of advice

1. Read all the fine print and know if there are any restrictions to registering for a class you need.

2. Esims is a pain in the as' it goes down everytime registration opens up.

3. Staff gets priority registration as well as declared majors with a large amount of credits.

4. If you can, try going to a Suny- in long island Suny Farmingdale is just about the same amount per credit -230 ish, and registrations is super easy. I took Pre-reqs there and never regretted it. It's about 10 exits from NCC on the southern state prkwy.

5. Check to make sure how many science classes you must take inhouse at Hunter inorder to get in, there might be one.
