How Did You Get a Job at a North Shore-LIJ Hospital??

U.S.A. New York

Published

I have been applying to the North Shore LIJ system in New York for 4 months now! I have filled 23 applications and still no response. If you currently work at their hospitals or know someone there, can you tell me how you got in?? I have been applying online for months..How did you apply online and get the job? Did you literally sit by the computer ALL DAY refreshing the website to see what new positions were open before others took it?? I heard they only look at the first 5 positions? Is that true? What times of the day are best to apply? Or did you know someone at Human Resources?? If you could just tell me your process I would greatly appreciate it!! Sorry to ask too many questions it's just that I am really desperate:sorry: ...There are more and more grads coming out from Nursing school and I graduated in December and still no job yet...I just don't know what to do anymore...

North Shore LIJ picks candidates based on the order they received the application and on a candidates credentials. They also don't pick candidates based off of knowing someone, I have 2 REALLY good connections to their health system and still have not received a call. The only way to land a position is to keep applying, even internal candidates have to apply online like everyone else. I'm going through the same thing right now, good luck!

So if I apply to a position a minute after it is posted do you think I have a good chance? Like if it is Med/Surg or Telemetry

I would assume so based off of how they say they pick their candidates. I apply everyday as soon as positions are posted and have yet to receive a call though, but I only have an associates working on BSN. Are you an associates or bachelors prepared RN?

I have a BSN. But I am a new graduate with absolutely no clinical experience besides school. There is so much competition because there were so many people in my nursing program who were CNA's or PCA's and I did not do either (School was difficult and I really needed to focus)

The only clinical experience I have is as a hospital volunteer, so I have zero experience either. I'm just trying to be really proactive with applying to any and all positions I'm eligible for and doing so everyday. I have gone on 1 interview so far. I have friends with no clinical experience, with an associates degree, that have already landed good hospital jobs, so I'm hoping it works out for me soon too. Good luck.

Really?? Wow good for them! I really want to work at any one of their hospitals. I just got a call from Stony Brook University Hospital for an interview. The problem is I live near West Hempstead and It will take me 3 hours to commute by public transit (I do not own a car but will after I earn money from working as an RN). I'm still applying to North Shore LIJ

Specializes in NICU.

It seems like they've built an impenetrable fort around that hospital! When I was job searching they refused to accept my resume when I walked into HR. They insisted I go online. I secured an interview by calling the nurse recruiter and asking if they were still accepting resumes for the new grad residency program. I got through 2 rounds of interviews at LIJ but didn't receive a job offer. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I've been working for 3 years now so in the grand scheme of things, I learned job hunting has its ups and downs, you'll receive more no's than yes's, but in the end you get back the amount of effort you put in. Eventually something has to give. Don't give up! And volunteer if you're that passionate about one particular hospital. Also research extern programs!

How did you get the name and number of the recruiter? I can figure it out at other hospitals, but can't seem to figure out who the recruiters are for North Shore LIJ.

How did you get the name of the nurse recruiter? And which Nurse residency Program I never heard of it

Specializes in Primary Care, OR.

There are tons of nurse recruiters and managers throughout the whole health system (it would be nearly impossible to name them all considering they may work out of different locations) and "talent acquisition specialists" that go through resumes and do the interviewing.

The new grad residency/ fellowship programs have specialty in critical care, ED, and peds/peds ED/NICU.

They post once or twice a year.... I believe the last post went up in June and before that, October. The post only stays up for two to three days and then closes out... They get a lot of applications!!! You just have to be lucky enough to catch that post go up. Here's the link to info
