Advice on moving from VA to NY.

Hi everyone:

I'm a new Rn with no real world experience. The job market in Virginia is pretty bad. I have a lot of family in Ny and they are all singing praises about how new york is not suffering as bad in this job market. However I had 3 quick questions:

1. How is the job market for new rn with no experience in new York, close to the cites/ accessible by public transportation.

2. Right now I'm working on my Rn to bsn in virginia. I will be done in a year but I would rather try it in NY if they have programs like that available.

3. I only have an ADN right now. Do you think I should wait to get my bsn before leaving the state of Virginia?

Those are my three biggest worries any help would be great because I am trying to decide before my RN to BSN program starts at the end of Aug.

The NY market is just as bad if not worse. 4 area hospitals closed, leaving hundreds of experienced RNs without work. The other hospitals are on hiring freezes.

Oh wow i did not know that. I guess that's out of the question. I feel even worse for the experienced RNs.

Agreed, maybe in upstate New York things aren't as bad off but in the city? They're just bleh, in every single job pretty much. Also, a lot of large scale hospitals have started with their BSN-preferred and BSN required comments so I definetely think coming with a BSN would be more beneficial.

That's true. The upstate New York job market is not bad. You could try there. The New York City job market is very bad. Things could improve in a few years however.
