Hello there,

It is Geena here. I have battled for one year with the CGFNS to be able to sit the exam. I submitted my application in January 2003. I have received two notifications that I am missing my certification examination and the toefl and therefore the board cannot review my application. The first notice was in April and the second one in September. I have attempted to contact the Institution by mail and by fax and have got zero replies. Certification examination meaning the CGFNS exam???? So I will need the certification exam to be able to be reviewed whether I qualify to sit the certification exam????

I am so lost.

I have just noticed that NY Nursing Board requires credentials evaluation only and not the CGFNS and I have my hopes up again.

Are there any European graduates who have gone through this mayhem with this CGFNS Institution and actually got greenlight to sit NCLEX? Please get in touch, I will need some good advise!

Looking forward to hearing from you! Geena

Hi Geena,

I understand that you are confused because I'm foreign nurse too.I don't know all the things that the board of CGFNS asked you.I think you should call the board of registered nurse of NY and ask if you need to send them all credentials for evaluation to obtain the authorization to take the Nclex exam .About the CGFNS,ask them if you really need it to obtain your licence or if you can practice without the CGFNS.I know some states in USA don't require to take the CGFNS to practice as nurse?Keep in touch and good luck.

Hi

Not sure if this will help but I have heard that from sometime this year every foreign nurse will have to go through the CGFNS credential check etc for immigration. Have you tried ring them, I would also keep emailing them

Thank You Guys for the advice. I have not actually tried to email the CGFNS, only sent registered letters and faxes.

I shall try the NY Board and see what they have to say.

Something will work out!

Thanks again, G:)

PS Just notices there is a forum for International nursing and my question would have been more appropriate there!

Silverdragon 102 is correct; every internationally educated nurse ( with few exceptions) is required to pass a predictor exam (the CGFNS) as required in section 343 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996. This went into effect September 2003. Go to http://www.cgfns.org for more info and details.

Good Luck!!
