Dominican College and TEAS exam. Do they require a minimum in each section?

Hi to everyone who reads this (it's kinda long, sorry)!

I am looking to enter their traditional BSN program as a transfer student. After meeting with their nursing admissions rep, she went over my transcripts and gave me a lot of hope. She suggested I take the appropriate steps to apply even though I have none of the math pre-reqs and only 3 sciences. A&P I and II, and Biology. The rest of my course load was liberal arts.

A few days ago I received an acceptance letter to the college (yaye!), but still need to apply to their nursing program. I took the TEAS exam.

I passed. The admissions rep made a generalized statement that I needed a 70% or higher. But looking at my scores.... WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY BASING THAT 70 ON!!!!!!! Please someone jump in here and tell me!

Here is how I did:

Individual Total Score: 73.3%

  • Mean - National 64.3%
  • Mean - Program 64.9%
  • Percentile Rank - National 74
  • Percentile Rank - Program 75

Broken down even further:

Reading: 78.6%

Mean

  • National: 70.5%
  • Program: 71.2%

Percentile Rank:

  • National: 70
  • Program 69

Mathematics: 63.3%

Mean

  • National: 69%
  • Program 69.8%

Percentile Rank:

  • National: 39
  • Program: 36

Science: 75%

Mean

  • National: 53.6%
  • Program: 54.3%

Percentile:

  • National: 90
  • Program: 91

English and Language Usage: 73.3%

Mean

  • National: 63.8%
  • Program: 64.3%

Percentile

  • National: 78
  • Program: 78

As some of you already know, it's broken down even further. No need to go there right now.

Does Dominican base entrance on your Percentile or Mean or Adjusted Individual Score?

I'm feeling so embarrassed right now. I'm supposed to take the college assessment next, followed with a meeting with the director of the program in April. Should I even bother taking those steps with these kinds of scores?

I didn't apply to Dominican College but I did apply to 4 other second degree accelerated nursing programs and did a lot of research on other schools. Since no one from the school responded, maybe I can help. Most schools that I looked at that required the TEAS were concerned with Math, Reading, and English. They expect higher grades in these 3 sections in particular and also an overall adjusted average score of 70+. By looking at your scores, I would suggest studying for the math section and retaking the exam to bring up your grade. The math section is extremely important because they are afraid of miscalculations on med dosages. When you get into a nursing program, you will be tested time and time again on dosage calculations, and have hesi, teas, nclex question that all require good math. Molloy required 80+ in math! I think LIU was 70+ in math.

Thank you for your reply! Should I wait until meeting with the head of the program before rescheduling the TEAS?

I would suggest calling the admissions department and asking what their specific TEAS requirements are by subject. I don't think it will hurt to take the TEAS again being that your math score can be improves, especially if u plan on applying to other nursing schools as well.

Thanks! I'll try and reach them tomorrow!

Hey there i don't know if this is a super late response. But, I actually go to dominican college and have gone through the lovely process of the teas . i remember my grade was in the top right corner in bold in a print out . By the looks of what you have posted it seems like i would think you got a 73.3 which is more than the 70 they need so good job! I could be wrong but I'm almost certain, all the other grades don't mean anything they just reflect how you did on that portion of the exam and together they give you your grade. Anyways good luck!
