Concordia College NY - Fall 2012

U.S.A. New York

Hey guys! Has anyone else been recently accepted into the nursing program?

I'm also attending the June 14th orientation - looking forward to meeting you all too!

I will be going June 14th. I'm very nervous just trying to take it one day at a time. I want us all to get through this and enjoy this experience. I can't wait to meet you all.

Yes, thank you, Eventide, for taking the time to clarify things! I'm sure you remember being as nervous as we all are and it definitely helps hearing from a current student who is having a success in the program :)

Welcome to those who are new to the board! I am eager to meet everyone. Speaking of which, we're trying to organize an informal meet-up before classes officially start. So far, it looks like the end of this month MIGHT work for people. I'm still trying to get a read on what most people's availability is. Please chime in!

A reminder that we have a group on FB: Concordia College NY Nursing Fall 2012

Hi guys, for some reason I can't find the group on facebook. I'm thinking it's because I registered for facebook in Canada and sometimes I have difficulty finding groups and people from around here. If anyone can give me a suggestion I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

I'm looking to apply to the Fall 2013 program after reading all the horror stories about Pace. Can anyone tell me what the admissions process is like, how far in advance you all applied and what your GPA's were from your previous school?

Hi missbsn,

I found the entire process of applying to Concordia to be pretty painless. You must have completed Chem, both A&Ps and Microbio (with a grade of at least a B) within 5 years, a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher from your 1st bachelors, a letter of recc and $50 application fee. My GPA with my pre-reqs was probably about a 3.6. The first time I applied was in 2011 and I waited too long (late March or April I think). They told me that they had already accepted the 50 or so students for Fall 2012 and they'd roll my application over to 2012. Sure enough, come February of this year I get a call to schedule my interview and writing sample. Two days after that I got my acceptance letter in the mail! If I were you I would apply as early as you can.

The people in the admissions department and the assistant to the Dean are extremely helpful and friendly. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any of your questions.

Hope this helps!

hey guys! congrats on getting accepted into the nursing program. I am a current nursing student You can also email me email at [email protected]. if you have any questions about the program as well. But seriously don't listen to the negative comments. It is a lot of work but it will all be worth it in the end. The program will soon be over before you know it :)

Hi! Can you tell me if you think having the older editions of the texts is detrimental or does it not make a difference? Thanks!

Lena

Having the older editions is not detrimental, but can be a pain if a professor references a box or chart from a particular page in the new edition. In that case you could always just take a picture of it from someone else's book or from the book in the library (they have all of the textbooks there for you to use while in the library). The information from one edition to the other really doesn't change much so if you need edition 11 and you have access to edition 10 you should be fine. The book is really good to be used as a reference rather than your main source of information because most of your info will come from the powerpoints and lecture.

I do have a couple left. However, we might be putting something together during your orientation so whoever missed the last one can get what they need. I've been in contact with a few of your classmates and they will post to your fb group page when we confirm everything.

Great! Thank you! Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't have their books yet :)

Hi everyone. I am currently applying for the class that starts next year. Anyone have any advice to give? Also, for those of you who were accepted, if you don't mind sharing....what were your GPAs? Thanks.
