CNA/student nurse jobs on Long Island/NYC for nursing student

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in my first semester of a ADN program in Rhode Island. This summer, I am moving to NY temporarily. I will be returning to RI in the fall, but I was wondering if anyone knew any information about applying to work as a CNA or student nurse after 2 clinical rotations (I have nursing home/LTC and med-surg this semester) for the summer. I would love to get a job this summer that might give me some experience. Does anyone know if I have to take CNA boards, etc. to work? Any info on this topic will be helpful!

You don't need a CNA license to work in a hospital but you do for LTC. Just speaking from my own experience with a new-ish CNA license and no clinicals done yet, it took me 6 months to find a position. However, my new job is in a large hospital. They informed me that they get tons and tons of applicants. The nurse manager specifically told me that for temp positions they usually want people with experience so they don't have to train and for longer positions they prefer people that are going to commit to at least 2 years.
