If anyone has attended or does attend New York City College of Technology's nursing program, can you give me any insight as to how long of a waiting list there is to get into the program? Muchas gracias.

Hello mymy1219,

I am starting 4th semester in 4 weeks. What do you want to know specifically about NYCCT nursing program?

hi ashlee89 i would like to know what was your gpa when you was accepted into the program. how are your classes and clinicals? Also are you working while you in the program?

Has anyone applied to the BSN program? They refuse to give me advisement since I'm still in my last semester of an ADN program.

If anyone could share their experience that would be great.

My GPA was 3.9 when I was accepted into their program. I was a straight As student. I'm taking my last class this spring and my current GPA is 2.9. lol It's been an emotional roller coaster to say the least. I've lost many friends along the way, who were kicked out of the program.

Clinicals were actually the highlight of my experience at City Tech. I've been to Kings County, Maimonides, Woodhull and Elmhurst. The clinical instructors are extremely helpful. I feel like I've learned a lot. Lecture professors try their best but it's an insane amount of material in a very short period of time. There's no way they can cover everything in class, so many times students did feel unprepared for the exams. They did try their best, by offering tutorials (sometimes during the weekends). You have to go hard and put in many hours of studying to do well in this program. But I'm sure all nursing schools are the same way. I was not able to work while I was in the program. It was just too much for me. If you can afford to not work, I will suggest you dont. You can always work during the summers. A few of my friends did work full time though.

They announced recently that we have the highest NCLEX passing rate among the CUNY schools so they must be doing something right.

Overall, my experience at City Tech has been stressful, exhausting, frustrating at times, it made me want to pull my hair out and sometimes give up....BUT as I'm approaching the finish line I think it was SO worth it. Just hang in there, ace your prerequisites , especially A&P because you will need it for the rest of your career as a nurse...And good luck!!! Getting in is the easy part, hanging in there for the next 2 years is the real challenge.

Thank you so much for the information i really appreciate it. I'm doing my first set of pre reqs in city tech so i have to make sure that i end this semester with 3 A'S.

My GPA was 3.6 now it is 3.0. I am in my last semester at City Tech. My recommendation is to finish your prereqs early so you sole concentration is on the nursing classes. The post from Tinkerbell described my experience perfectly.

Thank you ashlee89 my other question is did you take a&p 2 and micro while you was in the program or you did you do it before you applied in the program. I basically need for pre reqs mat 1175, bio 1175, psy 2301, for spr and fall a&p 1 and mat 1275 then i can apply. I did eng 101 and 102, psy100, soc100 etc at bmcc so i have a lot finished in a sense. Thanks

Do not take the prereqs with the nursing classes!!!! That would be like shooting yourself on the foot! You are allowed to take 2 nursing classes per semester. That's 2x a week in school for lecture and 2x a week in the hospital for 6 hours + tutorials and study time. Micro and A&P BOTH have labs. It is just too much.

I took all my prereqs during the summer. It's still a lot, but at least during the summer it is not distracting you from your nursing work.

Thank you so much!

I took microbiology in 2nd semester with my two nursing classes. I did make it but, I would not recommend this option. it was very stressful and time consuming. Microbiology in addition to my nursing class was an heavy load. I would only recommend taking another class with two nursing classes if it non science and not writing intensive.

I hope you received and high grade in English 101 or English 102 and Psych 100. They want to see your gpa for Ap1, English 1,Psych 1, and Mat 1275. they will substitute one class for its counterpart to help boost your gpa. example I received a B- in AP 1 and A- in AP2 they will substitute the grade. Remember they will only do it for one class not all four. Remember you can take courses in the summer. use the website rate my professors to choose your professor wisely since you basically want to get an A your first time around with a good teacher and your hard work. I don't like my hard work combined with a horrible teacher. They will substitute for psych grade for child psych. go to the nursing department to get the booklet about the program. it will explain this policy or make an appointment to speak with a professor to receive advisement. Do it now before it get busy later in the semester.

Thanks for the info i actually had a meeting with an advisor today and she told me i am on the right track.

for ENG 101 I had an b but ENG 201 i had a B+ so they are going to use that grade. PSY 100 i had a B but now im taking child PSY and i am trying to get an A so that can substitute the PSY 100 course. So all i need is anatomy & p I and mat 1275 to get into the program. so i have to make sure my gpa is over a 3.4
