can i take the NCLEX?

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi, I am a graduate Nurse in the philippines, but im staying here in New Jersey since we migrate here a couple months ago...

is there any way i can take NCLEX here in US? or do i need to go back in my country to take Board Exam, CGFNS, TOEFL?

yes you can. Just check NJ BON to know the necessary requirements in taking the nclex rn exam. Im also from the philippines and didn't take the NLE before i went here but i was able to take the NY nclex rn exam last october '08. I applied to CGFNS for the CVS then applied to NYS Education Dept. for Licensure, it took about 6 months before i got my ATT. good luck to you.

I came from the Philippines, too. I just took the NCLEX for New York 2 weeks ago and passed ( I am in New Jersey). When they mail my license, I will apply for licensure by endorsement here in Jersey.

New Jersey requires the Philippines boards, but New York doesn't. Hope that helps:D

oh really!? that's a relief... but to tell you the truth, i took the NLE last june '08 but sadly, i didn't pass... do you think it can cause a problem for me to apply for NCLEX in NY? do they allow me to take the exam since i didn't pass the local board? cause im really worried about that...

thanks for your comment, i really appreciate it... thank you!

that's a very good news for me... caused I'm really worried if i can take the exam here in US...

i have another question if you don't mind,..

i took NLE last year 2008, but i did not pass the exam, do you think it can affect me for applying NCLEX in NY?

thank you so much for your comment, and again... congratulations to you! ^_^ good luck to you!

i don't think it would cause any problem, because NY doesn't require the NLE. So if you decided to take the NY NCLEX you better start off applying to CGFNS for a Credential Verification now then to NYSED. Check their website for further instructions & forms; you can download the application forms from the website. hope it helps.

the cgfns is for those who graduated outside the u.s. so yes, even if you are a u.s. citizen, you need to go through their verification/certification. my husband is a citizen and i am a permanent resident and we both had to go through it because we were educated in the phils.

it takes a while, probably 6 months or more before the whole process is completed so i suggest you start asap.

new jersey requires cgfns certification (which requires the nle). new york does not because it has its own cgfns verification service, which does not require the nle.

hope that helps.:D

ohh thank you for that ....i have another ques. is really a cgfns a exam or what?? coz im a bit confused of that some says that it isnt a exam...its a credential verification so i need to know ..thanx

For New York, it's not an exam (credential verification only). For other states requiring CERTIFICATION, i believe it's an actual exam.

I am a permanent resident and have earned my BSn in phil last march '09. Moved to NJ on april and started meeting requirements for state licensure..I ordered the full education course-by-course report from CGFNs to be submitted to NJ BOn. Also took an english proficiency exam..I haven't read in the requirements that NLE is needed. there are 5 elements needed for foreign-trained nurses and NLE isn't one of them.
