Buffalo NY nurse agency recommendation?

  1. 0
Hello, Im looking to get an agency job in Buffalo NY. Im hoping some nurses can tell me what companies are good and what I might expect in pay and if they provide benefits. But more important to me is a good company to work for. Any ideas on what I should ask them when I call to inquire?

Trying to pull this up to the top.
I am in Buffalo as well. If you are not a PICU, NICU or OR nurse it seems difficult to find employment.
Not too mention the fact that the pay is so low.
    Any thoughts.
Any agency's besides Worldwide and Supplemental and Nurse finders?
Maxim is here but honestly they do not seem to have good ethics and will lie about you if it means saving their Butt. And potentially set you up for failure.
WillCare is also here. Certified and licensed. They work you to death. Call at all hours, have an outdated computer documentation system. It can took up to 4 hrs to do an Admission. If you are not in the right "gang" they ostracize you.The other licensed and certified Agency is VNA and Catholic Health and of course Hospice.
Catholic Health System and Kaleida rule the roost here but there is high Nurse -patient ratios', not great pay and lateral work place violence. Also the Hospitals in WNY including Rochester, seem to like to flip flop shifts.. IE 3 days on nights, pop back to days... for a couple of days, flip flop back to Nights. Every other weekend. ETC...
Then there is ECMC. My Mom had a wonderful experience there as a patient, but the Hospital is Union and I noticed that the Nurses are constantly arguing about Union issues between themselves. Spells discontent to me. Although the Nurses are much nicer.
There are many Doctor office jobs here but when I called one of them the Doctor did not know what the nurses were paid and told me there was no orientation. When asked about the duties he said"I do not know... just whatever nurses do... you know...put patients in rooms and take a blood pressure". Hello?
I am getting my information based on my own experiences of observation and also what was reported to me by other Nurses.
If anyone has any other information on Buffalo and the atmosphere here in regards to Nursing please share.

I work for CHS, med surg hired as a new grad. I think it's a decent place to work, on my unit there is not an issue with lateral violence, some difficult personalities but nothing much beyond that. Pay and benfits are decent. We don't flip shifts unless you want to. Our unit self schedules which I love. The orientation was good &I have seen other new grads get extended orientation if they needed it. Overall I am happy there.

Thanks for the feedback RNImk. It is good to know that someone is having a positive experience. But in my talking with people in the WNY area, many unfortunately are not.

I work full time for VNA. Pay is decent. Benefits are excellent. We see approx. 6 patients per day. It is Kaleida's homecare agency. There is job security and I know they are hiring. I work in Niagara County and the manager is great.
