Is anyone attending or heard anything about ASA' s nursing program?

Just curious

Good evening everyone, I had recently had done some investigation on this Nursing program at ASA College in Brooklyn, New York. I went to the school personally, and I have to say I am not impress at all. I would tell everyone give it a couple of year's for the program of this institution to build a reputation. Majority of the program Nursing program's are registered with the NLNAC currently known as Accreditation Commission for education in nursing website Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. | Formerly NLNAC | National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.. They are not accredited by the Ace Nursing organization at all, in additition their first semester of ginea pigs students begin Fall of 2013. So, this program have no history to base it on, in addition they are asking for $550.00 A CREDIT!!!! FOR A NON NATIONAL ACCREDITED PROGRAM??? PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. THEY ARE BASICALLY ASKING ALMOST $35,000.00 A YEAR.

How is the nln per entrance exam? Was it difficult ? Did the dean interview you?

This college wants you to do two whole entire semesters of medical assisting before you can qualify to take the NLN, and its not even NLN accredited. I left and transferd to a bigger better more pretigious school. This school is filled with rats and their staff is very rude, Good LUCK.

This school sounds totally sketchy, and I would be very very weary of registering at ASA.

Specializes in MedSurg, PACU, Maternal/Child Health.

Do a lot of research re: schools. You dont want to waste money and/or financial aid on a diploma that will be totally useless in getting a job. Check with NYC Department of Consumer Affairs on legitimate schools. Legitimate affordable ones I know are for RN: the CUNY schools : City Tech (BSN), Hunter College and Lehman College (BSN), BMCC and Kingsborough and Queensborough (ASN only), LaGuardia (ASN only), Adelphi (BSN), SUNY Downstate (BSN), St Paul's (ASN only). Higher price ones but also legitimate: Columbia, NYU, LIU, Pace University. For LPN: Helene Fuld, Mildred Elley, NYC DOE Adult Education Center.

Iam thinking about going to this school iam scare of the reviews , I actually went to the shool located in Brooklyn NY based ofn the information I get th iam going to spend two semester taking prequisite that include Math, bio, anatomy ,and physiology etc after take the NLN , sometime it good to go to the school get the information for your self instead of listen to others , they didn't mention anything to me about medical assistant first ialso have people at my job doing their clinical there and my friend also attend the school now ,, the reason I don't go the class start June17,2014 that too close for me

The only thing I don't know if the school recognize I forget ask

If you check the New York State Professions website, you can compare the NCLEX pass rates to other schools.

NYS Nursing:Nursing Programs:RN NCLEX Results: 2013-2017

However ASA only has one student as having taken the Nclex and passed, giving it a 100%, what happened to the rest of the class? ASA is accredited by the state but not with any nursing organizations, meaning that when you finish your ADN you will be able to sit for the NCLEX,but you may run into trouble when transferring your credits to any BSN bridge program if you decide to continue your education. (BSNs are becoming the norm here in the area)

Please do not feel like any of the posts are attacking ASA students, many are simply trying to warn you guys about any possible pitfalls as they are a very new program.

If you decide to ASA is for you, please come back and tell us your experience, it is always good to know how local schools are doing.

Whatever you choose, good luck!!!!:)

hello all I am a student in the asa nursing program here is a few comments of my own

1. every school has pre reqs with asa you follow the MA classes (which are the same as nursing a&p, micro, math, eng ect) then you sit to take the NLN if you dont pass you can continue on to being a MA.

2. In order to have the ACE accreditation you must have a graduating class. this program started in 2012 and to date has only graduated one class. so they dont have that yet.

3. the class that graduated only had about 10 students and they just graduated. i doubt they are running to take nclex right away.

4. the cost is less than going to a private school

Its your choice.... The program is coming along very well. I learned alot and will have associate in less than 2 years.

Hello everyone ,

I am currently a student at ASA college and I am taking my pre nursing classes, unfortunately I have to pay out of pocket $542 for the first semester!!! The other choice besides paying out of pocket was to take the ma program for a semester then the the exam to get into nursing ... I found this odd . sorry if I'm rabbling on ..but what I found extremely odd is that I asked my academic advisor if she found a job in her field, I asked because she told me she also went to ASA and graduated but yet she NOT working in her field she working in the college and another thing I don't know / nor can find ANY KNOWN GRADUATING NURSES OR STUDENTS FROM ASA COLLEGE actually working in their field of study ....idk maybe its just me trying to find something wrong with the school but after reading the comments after the first Semester I going somewhere else

have anyone taken the NLN for ASA recently? i'm taking it on 11/24/14 and just wanted to know what o expect.

As far as transferring credits for BSN program, it is true that some colleges wont accept ASA credits. But some still do, Chamberlan, St. Francis, Hunter etc. I am surprised hearing about rude staff. I have just graduated the program and i found a lot of professors to be very pleasant, and accommodating, so are the students. I think people will treat you the same way you treating them.

Regarding prices, it is not a cheap school, the only reason i chose it over others in 2013, was absence of waiting list and low bar for NLN passing score. However, i think right now situation is changing as more people want to get in into the program.

Would i have chosen ASA if i had more time on my hands and different life situation, perhaps not, but having graduated in less than 2 years, with good clinical experience and seeing the possibilities for future growth, i think ASA has worked for me and i am very grateful for that.
