Accepted job at NYP-Cornell!

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey folks...

Happy New Year to all!

With this New Year comes a new job. I accepted a position at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell). The interview process took several months but I was finally offered a pediatric position at this GREAT hospital. I am extremely excited to get started.

I do have a dilemma. I've heard nightmares about the pre-employment pharmacology exam sponsored by the NLN.

I am reviewing old textbooks and made up some medication flashcards but still feel somewhat overwhelmed.

Are there any nurses out there who have taken this exam recently? If so, I would appreciate any feedback.

NOTE: I am aware of the old threads about this subject. (OLD THREADS).

Thanks again for your time.

Also, @RNcompassionate-Did your friend receive an email after her initial phone interview as well?

@ humblenurse12.....The eating disorder unit sounds pretty interesting actually...When I had the phone interview the recruiter asked me what unit I was interested in and I said the O.R., L&D, pre and postpartum and she said she could interview me for any area at this point but that she may be able to get me in the O.R. She said that there aren't really any Women's Health positions available right now... I guess not at the Cornell location. Yes! I spoke to my friend a few days ago and she said she had received the exact same email that I received so that makes me feel better. Now I'm just waiting for the next step.

humblenurse12 --You will probably get a call before me since you seem to have had your phone interview before I did. :D

@RNcompassionate... any updates on the interview call? I actually got the call a week later and have an interview in 2 wks. Did you hear? Stay positive and they're gonna call!

@humblenurse12... How was the interview process?? I hope you don't mind me asking, bc I'm a little nervous about the interview. Did they make an offer to you and did you have to take the pharm test?

@concep1125-First, your interview with the nurse recruiter. She explained everything to me from the job description to the pay, benefits, etc. Then, she asked behavioral interview question (which weren't bad). The pharm exam isn't until after you're hired. The next step is to interview with a unit manager. This is usually a few days after the interview with the nurse recruiter, however I live in Atlanta, so the nurse recruiter wanted to see if any of the unit managers could interview me that same day. Unfortunately, no one was available on such short notice.

Now I'm playing the waiting game to interview with a unit manager. The nurse recruiter told me she hasn't been able to set up my interview yet because they've had some internal applicants graduate and they have to place them before they can offer something to me.:banghead:

Thank you so much for the heads up humblenurse12! I totally appreciate the insight. They emailed a list of things (reference list, resume) to have ready. I thought they hired based upon experience?

That's probably the case for most positions but I applied for the new grad position.
