Accepted job at NYP-Cornell!

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey folks...

Happy New Year to all!

With this New Year comes a new job. I accepted a position at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell). The interview process took several months but I was finally offered a pediatric position at this GREAT hospital. I am extremely excited to get started.

I do have a dilemma. I've heard nightmares about the pre-employment pharmacology exam sponsored by the NLN.

I am reviewing old textbooks and made up some medication flashcards but still feel somewhat overwhelmed.

Are there any nurses out there who have taken this exam recently? If so, I would appreciate any feedback.

NOTE: I am aware of the old threads about this subject. (OLD THREADS).

Thanks again for your time.

Congrats Ari! I wish you all the best..hoping one day to join you. Please update us on your product. Best of luck on ur exam!

Hi Ari! Congrats on the job. Can I ask how you initially began the job/interview process for this position? Did you apply online, directly email someone you know etc. I graduate in August, and since you said the process took so long, I would love to get started now! Thanks so much for your help and congrats again!!

Not to jump Ari's Thread, but I can also answer the question...

- You MUST apply online. If they like your resume or think you are a good candidate for the position they will send you an email, and they will have you do almost like a personality test type deal where it's a lot of "What would you do type questions" not about medicine or meds but more about peer to peer interactions. I guess if you do well on that then you'll be contacted by talent recruitment and do a 15 min phone interview. If you do well there then they will set you up with a Recruiter for an interview...get thru the recruiter and the nurse manager of whatever unit you are trying to get into and then you'll probably get an offer, if not then try try again.

- For me, the process took 13-14 applications and over 6 months before they called me. They did call me in the summer of last year however when I spoke to them on the phone I was emotionally charged already so I didn't do so well...so I just kept sending applications...

If you're a new grad and you graduate in August. I'm not sure if they are going to have fellowships or anything that in August, from what I've seen they usually start in May/June. But I'm not 100% sure so you will have to do some research on it because I may be totally wrong.

Best of luck to you and your future endeavors.

Hi Da_Milk_of_Amnesia, Thanks so much for your response! I am graduating in August from a master's program, and have a little less than a year of RN experience so I'm not technically a new grad. I will start just submitting applications online for any positions I see, and hope something comes of it! Did you apply to other NYC hospitals? Was online applications always the best way to go? Thanks again!

Hi. I was informed that my next step in the hiring process is Pharmacalogy Exam. Since its only few weeks till next orientation, I have very little time to study for it. I am very scared, since I was never good at pharmacalogy. Any tips on how to study.

Thanx!

Hi!

I was also offered a position at NYP but totally forgot to ask for specific May/July orientation start date. HR is, of course, taking sweet time to reply.lol. Can you tell me when it is?

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I had my 15 MNS phone interview with one of the recruiters at NYP. I wanted to know how long does it take once your resume is forwarded to the nurse manager to get a call for an interview, based on your experiences? How long should I wait before I call the recruiter? Thanks a bunch!!

Congratulations on your new job Ari!!!! That's awesome ? I have a question. I am a new grad (RN) and I have tried applying online to NYP. My old instructor at Columbia has sent out my resume recently so I am still waiting, along with a contact at Cornell. I REALLY REALLY want to work for NYP and wanted to know if you have any info for any managers/recruiters that are hiring new grads at Cornell? I really would appreciate it.

Do you know of any units that are hiring new grads? Thanks, I would appreciate it!

Hi - I was wondering if you can share what the phone interview is like?

These days it seems to take weeks between each step! In my experience, the best move is to end the call with an inquiry about the next step and when you should expect to hear from someone.

It has been several months now...so, how long did it take before you heard from someone? or did you have to call them first?
