Accelerated Nursing Program NYU vs PACE vs Concordia vs College Mount Saint Vincent

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello I'm new to the forum

I would like to hear from anyone who's attending, attended or knows anyone that has attended the accelerated or regular nursing program at NYU, PACE, Monroe, Concordia or College of Mount Saint Vincent. Please provide your feedback on the program, school, faculty etc. I graduate this May and I have been accepted to Concordia and College of Mount Saint Vincent accelerated nursing program for this Fall 2014 (YAAAAY!!) but I have no idea which school to choose, I applied to all the schools above (waiting for letters from pace, nyu and monroe), financial wise Monroe would be cheapest I think it's 24K but their program is new so I don't know much about it, College of Mount Saint Vincent is the second cheapest at $45000 flat, Concordia is 60-70K and NYU and Pace should be around the same (60-70K) or more ..Money is definitely an issue but I also don't want to be in a school where professors don't teach and I don't learn, I rather pay the money one time and get good education and a great faculty.

I really don't know much about any of these schools apart from what's on their website (& everyone makes their school looks good online) so I'm asking please please if you know anything about these schools, attended or is attending please share your store, i'll really appreciate it :)

Ps: If you know of any scholarships or grants for accelerated nursing programs, please do tell

I'm Graduating from college, you need to already have a bachelor degree to start an accelerated nursing program..

NYU is far more than 60-70k- I did one semester there in Spring 2013 and tuition alone was $21k/semester, plus fees. And they are a 4 semester program. So figure in inflation of cost, and I bet you're looking at ~90k.

Really? Wow! Thanks for your feedback, were you enrolled in the nursing program there?

Yup! Left for financial reasons, plus I really didn't like the structure of the program at all. Starting a new program this summer though that is way cheaper with literally 3x the clinical hours incorporated into it :). I've heard good things about Pace and Mount St. Vincent- I have a friend who is a mount st. vincent grad who got into NY Presbyterian's new grad program last year!

Oh that's really good, I don't know anyone that knows of cmsv so that's real good feedback ..also, what about the structure of NYU program didn't you like? And also would you mind sharing where's the program you're about to start?

@Renzwi.. congrats on the acceptances you have heard so far!

I can only comment on NYU, Pace, and a little bit on The College of Mount Saint Vincent as I applied to these schools.

first, tuition-wise, as nycnursetobe2014 said above, NYU is about 85-90k. Pace is about 54k. so there is about a 30k difference in tuition there.

the length of the programs is also something to look at. CMSV is 18 months, NYU is 15 months, and Pace is 12 months.

I really do suggest going to open houses / information sessions for all the schools you apply to - I pretty much did that and it helps a lot as you get to visit the school and talk to people in a live setting. You most likely will get questions answered by the right people that you wouldn't have gotten by searching online.

For a bit I was deciding between NYU and Pace, and ultimately chose Pace as the location is more ideal for me, the tuition is more manageable than NYU, and I know they have great clinical placements. A close friend of mine graduated from Pace's ABSN program a few years ago and while it was extremely rigorous (especially being that it is 12 months), she had great clinical placements and was able to network through them and landed a great job. NYU is also a great school without a doubt, you just have to look at practical aspects of each school and what works for you.

CSMV - again I would suggest going to an open house. They have locations in Riverdale and in the mid-Manhattan campus. Graduate Information Sessions

good luck!

@petunia03 thank you so much for your feedback I really appreciate it, what do you think of the cmsv program? Do you know anyone that went there and their experience? ..also how do you find the pace program? I heard there's a math exam you have to take every semester how's it? Also I heard the "kick out" rate is pretty high, from your experience is this true?

Hi sorry I probably wasn't clear.. I meant I just now made the decision to go to Pace, for fall of this year, so I am not yet in the program! I too have read about the stories of people getting kicked out - but it seems as though administration has been on it as far as taking care of any underlying issues. It is a very rigorous program (as all accelerated programs are) - and especially being 3 months shorter than most it is most likely more work in a shorter period of time. They make it clear that you cannot work during the program - so you have to be OK with that, and realistic as I am sure some people still try to work and find it a struggle with the courseload. There are going to be pros and cons of all programs.

As far as a math exam I haven't looked into it but I don't see that as being an obstacle or something to be worried about - I think it is just to prep you for clinicals. Looking at NCLEX passing rates for each school is also very important as they are telling of how well the school prepares you for the exam.

CMSV I do not know anyone who has gone - but if you search through this forum you may be able to contact people who are currently in the program.

ty! and np... as I said I really do recommend going to an information session. You can probably get the emails of current students from the faculty.
