Any one planning to attend the ADVANCE job fair at Jacob center on Tuesday? If you are,,,, do you think NEW GRADS would have some chance?

I am attending. New grad, job search = 3 months. Very slim chance though of getting noticed. Spoke with a recruiter from a previous job fair and he was quite honest with me, saying that with big events like these, we just "fade into the crowd." However, I did get three agency calls from a previous job fair. Not to mention a number of contacts from agencies who say "call after six months of experience and we can place you in x,y,z hospitals." So... who knows? Nothing to lose in going! and don't forget... plenty of nursing swag... pens, sanitizers, & stickies.

What a bust it was. This fair was nothing like last year's. There were few hospitals and some of the ones represented had the nerve to tell people to apply online! Others were frank about not having any open positions.

I went. It was a waste of time. I'm a new grad, so you can imagine how that was. One of the recruiters, upon seeing that I graduated in June, had the nerve to ask what have I been doing all these months. Huh? How about studying for (and taking) the NCLEX and job hunting? Come on now.

It was so discouraging to see the recruiters' faces flinch when I mentioned I'm a new grad. "Apply online" was their usual response. Just not worth drudging through that rain we had that day.

I know guys. Let's hang in there. We need to have faith that the right position will come and the right time. Nursing shortage my rear.
Apparently things will turn around because "they always do". Let's see when that happens.

There is another career fair next Wed. 11/4, by Nursing Spectrum. I wonder if that will also be similar to the Advance fair?

Finally, I found people to discuss my dilemma of not finding a nursing job after graduating from nursing school (may, 2009). Everywhere I look (internet) or go (hospitals) it's either experience required or "we are not hiring". to compound the situation I am 50+ and the last time I went to a hospital, the recruiter was searching all into my face, I felt a bit ******. Not necessary. I am also on the verge of becoming homeless. I can't believe this is happening. I too, am registered for the 11/4 javits fair but, after reading some posts I don't think I will be going. What a drag. I am so depressed.

I attended also. It was a great way to network I did receive a call from an agency (I am a new grad) but I also felt discouraged b/c many did say they were not hiring and so I just left my resume. I know things will pick up soon Just hang in there all. Good Luck!!
