I am making myself sick from the GRE

Hi everyone,

I want to apply for Pace University's Accelerated BSN for Fall 2009. I have gotten all A's in my pre-requisites so far and my undergrad GPA (from 2001) is about 3.4. I am scared to death of the GRE. I am not good at taking standardized tests and I'm afraid that I will blow my chances with this one. Obviously I have to take it because it's required, but I'm just wondering-- how heavily is your GRE score weighed? I know it is different for everyone, but I'd like to hear from some Pace students or alumni-- how did you do on your GRE?

Merry Christmas!

Hi
I am not stationed in NYC anymore, but there are many Nursing Programs that don't rely on the GRE's anymore, both traditional programs and distance-education types.
I bombed my GRE way back in the day. But I still got into the MA en route Ph.D program at the Graduate Center in Anthropology....Your resume and YOU sometimes speak louder than a dumb test or exam
Good Luck to YOU

I'm sure Pace is a fine institution, but I'm dumbfounded as to why they require the GRE. Typically, that exam is only necessary for graduate school (not for a BSN).

Right. Most BSN programs do not require a GRE. That's only for Masters. Are you sure you're going for a Bachelors?

3.4 is decently high for applicants. Based on my research, the avg GPA for career-changers (usually why ppl do accelerated 2nd degree) is ~3.6. Seems like you have a good shot!

The GRE is used by some accelerated BSN programs to assess readiness to undertake an intensely compacted curriculum entwined with some graduate level courses. The University of Florida is also a school that requires it for their ABSN admission. They require 500 min on each section (math/verbal).

OP, I am in the same boat as you, as UF is the program I really want to attend.

Just noticed that your post was made in 12/2008. What has happened since then??

The reason I had to take the GRE for my program is because I'm going to be attending an accelerated BSN with the option of a Master's degree. Once you are accepted into the BSN program, you are automatically accepted into the Master's portion as well. It's for that reason that you have to complete a test that is intended for entry into a graduate program.

But all is better now-- I took the GRE at the end of January, did OK, and got accepted to Pace at the end of April!

Hi, I am actually thinking of applying to Pace and was curious to know what the process was like. My undergrad grades were not so great, but my prerequisites G.P.A. is roughly a 3.7-3.8 range. I haven't taken the GRE either and am so nervous about it. How long did you study? What was your score? What's the financial aid like? Plus I was also maybe applying to SUNY Downstate. Did you know anyone who had to take the N.E.T. exam? Thanks for the Help!

Paco386--
Are you applying to UF for next year? I am in Gainesville and am applying with them for next year. Any idea how many students they are taking now.

Hi Carla,

Yes, looking to apply for 2010. Not sure how many students they accept, I want to say 80 but maybe that's too many or too little - I cannot recall either if I read it somewhere - or maybe I just made up that # - . I was planning however to go visit the school sometime this summer to get more info and meet with admissions. In the meantime, the threads below are specific to the UF accelerated BSN, you might get more info from them also. The second one I created for those applying to to 2010 ABSN, so feel free to post there too!
