Help! I HATE my current job! I need to switch jobs soon!

I am an Associates Degree prepared RN (May 2008), expecting to graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in May 2010, with clinical experience on a Med-Surg + Geriatric floor at a local community hospital since June 2008

I love working with computers, and I am considering further studies in Nursing Informatics or Neonatal Nursing.
The nursery was the best part of my rotation. I LOVE babies!

I need to switch jobs soon! I am suffocating at my current job.

Is there anything neonatal nurses or informatics nurses may see fit to share with me, and others like me?

I understand.

I am grateful.

I'm not impulsive.

But I hope you see my point as well.

How do you feel about sticking it out at a job that drains from within you everything that is positive on a daily basis?

How stupid would it be to quit one job without the next one in hand?

Would it be worth taking a chance?

I wonder!

Where are you located? We have a research position open in upstate/northern NY - no babies but lots of computer stuff to do. They seem to have a problem getting someone, which bugs me since it's my job (I'm moving) so I feel guilty leaving. :P

I agree tho, don't leave until you find something else!

Where exactly FeatherzRN? Just general computer stuff? What's your job-title and/or description?

Recruiters want you for the area you're already working in - in my case med-surg. So, what if I want to switch to neonatology or informatics? Is it really that tough to train a med-surg nurse in another area?

I'm in Saratoga Springs, NY. Computer stuff is mostly a ton of data entry and database work. We do deal with patients as well of course, but that's mostly interviews, medications, blood draws, EKGs, etc. My job title is clinical research coordinator. I think we have a problem finding someone because no one wants to work full time M-F, everyone wants 12 hour shifts!

If you are looking at neonates, my guess is to wait for a training class, should one become available. That's what I did when I wanted to go from med-surg to SICU. Of course, that was in a different job market =(. Employers may be less likely to have classes if a pile of nurses with experience on that floor are lining up!
