Camp nurse as a new grad..good or bad?

by elnkb

Heres the deal. I have been job searching for the past 2.5 months, and have landed no offers. Been on 3 interviews and all of them led to nothing. Even the hospital where I externed turned me down.

Today I received a phone call from a camp counselor inquiring whether I would be interested in camp nurse position for 3 weeks. I am a new grad. I did my externship last summer for 2 months and other than that my experience as a nurse only includes my clinical rotations during school.

The counselor did say they have a NP to support me but shes not there all the time. There are 64 kids, and I would be on call everyday, and I would have to live on the camp site. My duties would be to dispense meds, and attend to whatever medical needs that may arise. Common medical problems that most of the kids have are allergies, attention deficit disorder, stomach-aches, trip and falls.

I feel nervous being on my own even though the NP drops by every now and then. As a new grad I feel not as confident, maybe it would've been better if NP was there ALL the time like I would have to be.

What should I do?
