GCU Fall 2015 (ABQ)

U.S.A. New Mexico

Published

Hello,

I am applying for GCU's Fall 2015 fast-track program here in Albuquerque. Is anyone else on here applying? I would love to starting chatting with you all!

NurseAlia2Be, sorry I just saw your private message, I had a hard time logging in lately and it doesn't let me send a private message. Please let me know once you hear from GCU, I am so so so nervous. I've been trying to stay busy and not think about it. :)

no I'm not apply to CNM. I've heard it's insane trying to get into their program since all you have to do is meet with the advisor once your pre-reqs are done and they just approve you to register. I heard that the classes filled up in 13 seconds after registration open and I just don't want to deal with that. Can you give me some details for GCU's program?? I can't find too much on their website about Albuquerque's program.

Hey mcary94! I am currently in my second semester of GCU's program if you want any insight into what it is like! Unfortunately, I may not be much help with the application process outside of giving you contact information for our advisor as things are changing. However, I am willing to try and answer any questions you may have and provide you with what I am aware of as of now...just let me know!

Great!! Thank you so much. I was just curious as to how the program is, do you enjoy the program? and also what the tuition is like?

So far, I like it, all of the instructors are great and work extremely hard to make sure we all succeed. There are some negatives, the most prominent being that everything comes to us from Main Campus, the instructors can not change anything and for the last three weeks things have been extremely unorganized. Since we are not in AZ, Main Campus also never seems to care about us, but the faculty and staff here at our campus makes sure that we have a sense of the GCU community, and everyone is proud to say that they go to GCU!

Level 1 is chock full of assignments, so much that now in level 2, where there are not nearly as many, it feels as if you should be doing something but do not know what exactly! in Level 1 you will have lab to learn basic skills, and you will start clinicals in level 2! One thing that the levels ahead of mine let us know is that once we are in clinicals, the nurses love GCU students and want us there!

Tuition is not as bad as I thought it would be. Prior to starting, I heard from everyone that it was so expensive and I would have so many loans. Because of this I was actually hesitant to apply despite being denied admission to UNM, and deciding that trying to get into CNM would not even be worth it thanks to the changes, so I put it off as long as possible. After meeting with our advisor, I knew that GCU was the school for me! Even in the 30 min-1 hour that I was there for my meeting, I could really tell that everyone loved it, and the sense of community was so strong. I never got that from UNM.

I have one of the scholarships that GCU offers and because of it, my tuition comes out to be less or equal to what I would have paid at UNM (I do not know what UNM's tuition looks like right now but am basing this off of last year). While it is still expensive, I definitely feel as if it is worth it, I do not know if I would feel that way at UNM based off of what I have heard. GCU is a really good deal especially if you look at nursing programs throughout the country. Yes, compared to NMSU and the CC throughout the state, it is relatively expensive, but it is a bargain when you compare tuition to other non-NM schools that award BSN's and even local schools like PIMA, Carrington, etc that offer an ASN. I think they may be changing the scholarship and admission criteria, however, so I will PM you the contact information for our advisor. He is great and will help you with anything you need regarding admission stuff!

So, as you can see, I basically just told you my life story ( I tend to ramble...sorry). But I would definitely go in to get a sense of what GCU is like even if you are not sure about applying. Our advisor is constantly giving prospective students tours and he really has so much more information that I do not have. That being said, if you are interested in GCU, go talk to him ASAP, people are discovering that GCU is an option and interest is definitely growing with more and more people applying.

[quote=Oh No!! Ok so far I haven't heard anything. What about you? I've been on vacation without any internet convection so I haven't been stressing out! I'm nervous though. Still praying that this is my year!

Good luck everyone! I had no idea that GCU had a program here in Albuquerque.. Did you ladies try getting into CNM before going to GCU?

Hey! Thank you, I am hoping for the best! Definitely contact GCU's nursing advisor to get more information on the program.

I tried applying twice for CNM. CNM is constantly changing their program and it's ridiculous! I hear that they are changing their program again for Fall 2015 semester. I guess they are going to do a lottery selection instead of the "first come, first serve" method that they have used for the last few semester. Also, they are trying to make the program a true 2 year program (including pre reqs). I'm not sure how that will happen. Anyways, if you do try to get into CNM and they are still doing the registration process, make sure you use the computers at the library. I have heard that those computers have the most accurate time.

Good luck and thanks again!
