I spoke with Angy this morning over at UMDNJ. She told me that they are currently looking at the summer 08 applications. They will not start processing Fall apps till May/June. My gpa is a 3.2 for undergrad.....a little over 3.5 for pre-reqs

Hey, thanks for replying! I asked because I was reading these boards yesterday and I saw alot of people saying that they had these super high GPA's and it made me think that acclerated nursing programs might be more difficult to get into then I thought. I currently have about a 3.2 but I hope to raise it to a 3.3 by the time I graduate. Anyway I hope you will post back when you get an answer from UMDNJ.

You have GOT to be kidding me! I am getting frustrated because I am graduating in May and want to know where I am going by then. Great- one more thing to stress over during finals.

Thank you very much for the post. I will be starting May 2 and I have to say that I am very nervous and excited at the same time.
It's very comforting to read a comment from somebody that has already started the program.

I am a graduate of the program. Be prepared to kiss everything good bye for 16 months, but it is well worth it.

    atomRN,

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of GPA did you have for your first degree? I applied for fall 2008, and I am just trying to see what my chances of getting in are.

Oh my undergrad was pretty terrible, like a 2.7 with a BS(tell me about it) in Anthropology. But when I did my pre-req core classes, I had a 3.5. I also had eleven year of work experience including 2 as a manager and 4 as a lab supervisor for a physical therapy DPT program.

I ended up graduating with a 3.5 from UMD. I also passed the NCLEX on the first try, so all in all, a success. Hopefully they have the bugs worked out with the program, because there were quite a few when I attended from '06-'07. I think Dean Koslowski was turning it around my last semester, but it has to hit rock bottom before it gets better, and for me, rock bottom was a voluntary Saturday clinical (which ended up being pretty damn awesome, I would suggest it), a half crazy clinical capstone teacher, a more than crazy psych professor in which I learned jack, a despotic gerontology teacher who would threaten us with test we couldn't pass.

And I still couldn't tell you who the dean was since we went through 3 in those months, but that was also at the height of the UMDNJ shake up.

I am not trying to discourage you at all, but just be prepared for the unexpected. Which is actually a pretty good rule to live by in the profession as well.

Jones, I really appreciate your thorough explanation of the program at UMD! Now that you've been there a few more months, I'm hoping you can give me even a little more insight -- I've heard you need to study for 50 hours a week (add 20 hours for classes/clinicals and 10 for commuting and that's 80 hours a week just for school!). Do you find this to be the case? If not, how many hours -- outside of class -- do you usually have to study? I suppose integral to that question is how many hours -- on top of studying -- you spend in tutoring and other voluntary sessions.

My goal is to find a program that allows me to have SOME balance in my life (to be able to spend, say, 2 hours a night and Saturday and Sunday afternoons with my husband). Would that be feasible in UMD's program?

Anyone else in the program PLEASE feel free to chime in too! Thanks!
