My best friend just started in the Fall and he has told me all the pitfalls, and what to expect so I am definitely well aware. All I need them to do is giving me enough knowledge to pass the NCLEX. This is my main goal.

Has anyone applied for priority or early decision to UMDNJ's accelerated program? If you have how long does it generally take to hear a response from the admissions committee? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. Congratulations to those who just got into UMDNJ ABSN program. I just completed the program. As previously mentioned, most of us weren't/aren't happy with it. In hindsight though, I was fortunate enough to have had great clinical instructors while there. But a lot of things are very disorganized there. In terms of clinical rotations, we didn't have much of a choice in that dept. UMDNJ loses sites at the last minute, and students get juggled around a lot. This was a big issue in my 2nd and 3rd semester (all 1st semester clinicals are at UH). By juggled around, I mean you may have registered for one site, and they might reregister you for a site that's miles away, in another county even. You can go through the headache of trying to switch, but if no one is willing to switch with you, you're outta luck. I have all my old books I'm trying to sell. If any of you have your syllabus - pm me the info and I'll check if they're the same books (I think they are).

Congratulations to all who got accepted to UMDNJ SON. :clphnds:

Nursing schools are so hard to get into these days, that even though the program is not Yale quality, you just have to work with what you got. :urgycld:

At the end of the day it's all about being clinically competent and passing the NCLEX. Best regards to all.

Follow the criteria of the school. If they ask for a page, don't give anymore than a page. Start with an opening statement that will get their attention, write from your heart, and make sure you include something that will make you stand out from the rest.

Please no "My name is ggabri07 and I want to become a nurse because"

Take time to critique your essay and ask for help critiquing. Don't turn in an essay you threw together in a few hours. When I first wrote one, I had no idea what I was doing, and read a book on writing a Personal Statement. You may not have the time to do so. Here are some links that may be of help:

I've been deferring my admission so I don't really remember how long it took for me to get a response. I think maybe a month or so?

Anyway - I was curious - why did everyone choose UMDNJ? Did you hear good things? Was it your only choice?
