Transferring into Rutgers-Newark bsn program

Hello everybody. Has anybody tried to transfer into their program? I know that you have to spend a year at their college in one of their "schools" then transfer into their program. Now once you do that...what year do you start in their program according to their curriculum?

Anybody out there that has had this experience? Please help. Will greatly appreciate it.

Actually transfered into the Rutgers program so I can awnser a few, currently in the 2nd semster. Yes you have to be a Rutgers student first, i believe you need 12-24 rutgers credits before you can apply to the program. Now you can actually register for many of the early nursing courses; anatomy 1 and 2, nutrtion, life span, human interactive process- The problem is the seats go to nursing students first before the "soon to be" nursing students, you may even be blocked online for registring. What I would do then is contact the professor or the nursing dept directly and see if you can get in. During that year as a "regular" rutgers student, i believe taking as many low level nursing courses can only boost your app. When I got in, i already had AP 1,2 , stats and microbio done- at the same time however I have classmates who did not have AP and micro done and they were still accepeted.

The GPA required-says 3.0-3.3-the offical paper work, the website says 3.0-3.3, talking to some students, they will say "Well rutgers will not accept anyone below a 3.7"- I did not have a 3.7, defintley not in the 3.7 range I was more in the 3.3 range so take from that what you will. I did have some EMT, hosptial volunteering and I believe I wrote a killer essay so perhaps that helped

If you cannot get into the classes at Rutgers I would recomend hitting up local community colleges-Essex is right next store. In fact I took both anatomy at Essex and they transfered over fine. What I would highly recomend is going to the school of nursing and talking to one of the advisors. They are friendly and they really do awsner any questions about "How can I get in?".

As you can imagine Nursing is one of the "hot" majors at Rutgers right now (as I imagine nearly all schools) and many students are trying to get in, thus having information is the best way. The offical school website is ok but nothing beats going in person and asking. For instance I made sure to call Rutgers up and ask " I will be taking Anatomy at Essex will you accept"- once I got the yes- I went for it

Rutgers nursing only accpets once a year, i believe the appliction opens up in Feb and closes late May- you will find out by email near the end of June whether you got in or not. The appliction does not require any TEAS,HEIS test etc... (ty god), there is an "optional" essay portion to the standard online app.

You would start at either the sophmore or freshmen level as junior and up are clincals-you cannot do clincals until the lower level stuff is done- stats, nutrtion, A,P, life span etc... So your goal would be to get the lower level stuff done as soon as possible. I know on the outside it is a bit frustrating that Rutgers won't accept direct transfers, that you have to be a regular student first- but it makes it easier to get in, nursing is hard enough to get accpeted to already eh... Good luck don't give up and you can lose nothing by applying

Im actually currently a student at Essex. I am currently taking microbiology and statistics. My gpa is a 3. 6. Im trying to raise that up to a 3.8 at least. I have taken a&P 1&2, chem 101 and both psych courses. Im hoping I get in. Im cutting it really close to the application deadline.

I think I'm just becoming overwhelmed with all this. Trying to find a college that will let you transfer into their nursing program.

if i remeber correctly the deadline opens up in Feubrary and it ends june 1st and you find out around June 20th. I myself found out I got in via email around june 20th. Your gpa seems fine ( I got in a with a 3.3 so a 3.6 is outstanding), my only concern is you have to have at least 24 credits from Rutgers (if you wish to transfer into their BSN program) as they curretnly do not accept non-rutgers students into the program. So you may have to spend a year just taking whatever classes in order to hit thier 24 credit requirment.

Outside of the 24 credit requirment you seem fine. There are people in my class who got into the program who have not already taken A&P and Micro and Stats-so you are ahead of the game.

Well the deadline for transfers is Feb 1. You have to get all your stuff in by Feb 15. So I'm cutting it really close. Oh dear!!!

It seems that is what Imma have to do. Transfer to Rutgers then transfer to their nursing program. I hope that in the end I do get in because all of this work to not get in would be a damn shame. A total sadness.

And yes I have applied to Essex's nursing program. I sadly did not get in. I didn't do so well on the entrance exam. I also had an advisor (before knowing i didnt get in) told me that it wasn't really worth getting into their program since you will run out of financial aid and then you still will have to find a University to get your BSN. I was going to apply again but i decided there was no point. Also

I'm graduating in May wit my AS in General Science. Looking to apply to other community colleges would be also pointless since in the end I would still be in the same position as I am now..looking for a University to transfer into to get my BSN.

Being the geek that I am..lol..i wrote down Rutgers nursing program curriculum. I have taken pretty much( if i was in their nursing program from the get-go) most except for one class in the first year and most of the first semester of the second year in their program. So i was thinking if i do transfer to rutgers i could just take the courses that is put under the "second year" nursing program curriculum.

Hey maybe if I do go to Rutgers..i might see you around. Even though I have no idea how u look like. lol. You are practically next door from my school atm. lol.

ah sorry you did not get into Essex nursing, good thing about Rutgers is no DAM pre nursing test. Graduate in May and get into Rutgers, then spend a year taking 24 credits, take as many lower level nursing courses as you can: Nutriton, life span, research process in nursing, HIP etc... and you should have a good shot. If you fill up on nursing courses then take whatever, just hit that 24 credits. Rutgers did recently raise the GPA from 3.0 to 3.3, but with your 3.6 that is more than good.

I think another good idea is to go into the Nursing department (or call them up) in ackerson hall and if you can see the undergrad advisor, she is very helpful.

Yea its ok. I wasn't so bummed about it when I found out. So going to Rutgers then transferring to the nursing program..is that a guaranteed admission?

Btw what classes are you taking in Rutgers? Have you taken a course called "trends in health care delivery"?

And so since you transferred into their program..are you at their sophomore or junior level of the program?

I would be saving lots of money to just go to Rutgers. Btw how is their financial aid? Did you have to take out loans? What is their tuition? Sorry that I'm asking you so many questions.

as far as i know there is no guarnteed admissions and there are no waiting lists for the nursing program. Hit the 24 credits, at least a 3.3 apply and hope for the best. I did have some volunteer expereince when I applied which I believed helped though there is no volunteer or extra cirrcular requirment. I am actually taking Trends right now (Trends is open to all majors) though for many trend is the first nursing course one takes. The other nursing classes I am taking are Research process and Cultural dimensions, along with some required nursing chemistry courses.

I am at the sophomore level, junior and senior are clincal levels (assuming this semster goes smoothly, clincals in September 2013!). Unless you have all the lower level classes done you would enter as a sophomore or freshmen. There are some people in my class who are freshmen or who will be sophomore + and will have to spend another year taking the lower level class before hitting clincals. What I would recomend is get the lower level stuff done as soon as possible so you can get into clincals right away. Rutgers is very strict, even if you are missing only 1 (only 1!) low level nursing course, you still cannot do clincals and you must wait a whole year. Which means for that year you would take the one required nursing class and a bunch of blah blah classes. Tution is for 12 credits about 6200$, more than essex but cheaper thanseton hall. Fincial aid is ok, though I have not been full time at other collges so I can't compare and yes I have taken on some loans.

So in turn you are going to finish in 2 years then? And ive been meaning to volunteer. How do u go about that? I wanted to volunteer at umdnj or st.michaels. And ive also been meaning to get recertified in CPR. Lol. So much to do ..so little time to do it in. Well find time to do it in.

Thinking about it i think i am going to go to rutgers and do the same thing as u. Rutgers is a great school. Good credentials. Looks nice when they see that you've graduated from there

Hopefully i get in. And hmm the tuition doesnt seem bad at all. Btw do you where u guys do ur clinicals?

aye if everything goes to plan- grad in 2015. As for volunteering I simply went up to the front desk of the hospital and asked "Where is the volunteer services office?" I have no idea where rutgers does clincals, has been buggin me a bit and il be sure to ask one of the upper classmen

Oo fun. Yay!! On to being a nurse. Ill be a yr after u if everything goes according to plan. Lol. And ahh ok thank you. I shall do that then. And hmm yea a mystery of where the clinical sites are at.

Hey @ whattodo4 we are on the same boat here..i am done with with A&P 1-2 both at Eesex and I am currently taking micro and statistic right now at Essex..you should check on to felician college and SHU those are my two option.. By the way if you go to Rutgers you will not finish in 2015.. That why I have more chance of going to SHU bc they don't care as long as you have a 3.5 they will accept you directly into the program..
