Rutgers transfer students

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi everyone! This post is for any students/nurses who transferred from a community college to Rutgers. Since Rutgers' nursing program does not accept transfer students from outside schools, they require that prospective students attend the School of Arts and Science and establish a GPA by taking 24 credits and then applying "school-to-school."

For anyone who has taken this route or knows someone who has, what classes did you take while you were fulfilling Rutgers' 24 credit requirement? I've read that on some occasions students were granted permission to take lower-level nursing classes, such as "Cultural Dimensions of Humans" and "Trends in Healthcare Delivery" but what other classes have you or anyone you know taken?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I know this is really late but I would like to answer your question.

I transferred into SAS in Fall 2013 from Middlesex County College. I completed the 24 credit requirement by taking:

Fall 2013

Nutrition and Health (nursing requirement)

Intro to Sociology (nursing requirment)

A humanities elective (nursing requirment)

Intro to cultural anthropology (anthropology/cultural studies elective is a requirement for nursing and I'm doing a minor in anthropology)

Spring 2014

Intro to human evolution (anthropology minor)

Chemistry of life (nursing requirement)

Research in disciplines (nursing requirement)

and I did a mentoring program to be a high school mentor which was 3 credits (this is more like volunteer work)

So yeah, there are some thing you can take but you will have to be creative or take up a minor. I know you can sign up to take nursing courses but the waitlist is long.

I knew if i were accepted into the program i was going to be a sophomore anyways so i didnt mind not being able to take any nursing courses. I'm finishing up my lower division nursing courses and will be ready to do clinicals in the fall.

you can also take other classes if you haven't taken them but I had already done all the other requirments at country college (A&P 1 and 2, microbiology, lifespan, etc.)
