Rutgers RN-BSN

U.S.A. New Jersey

Is anyone in this program? How hard is it to get into? Anything else you care to share about it?

Are all your classes with other RNs in the same program?

Is it online?

I've been to Rutgers website but would love to get an "inside scoop" from someone who goes there in this particular program.

Hi everyone! I've been looking into RN-BSN programs, it's great to read positive things about Rutgers! I initially thought this school was not an option because I heard Rutgers' nursing program was wait listed and nearly impossible to get into if you weren't already undergrad.

Can anyone tell me how much the program costs? Thanks.

I just wanted to respond because I'm currently in Rutgers RN to BSN program. The program is great so far and has not been as stressful as traditional nursing school. There isn't a wait-list for the RN to BSN program. I'm assuming you are referring to the traditional BSN program. The counselor for us is amazing and will tell you which classes to take to fit your schedule if you decide to work as an RN full time during the program. I'm not sure of the cost because the military pays for my schooling but check the schools website the numbers are accurate.

Thanks so much for responding! I was looking into Seton Hall's program but they're really expensive. I'm very excited about Rutgers now.

Yeah, I was super excited too! Actually, I still am hahaha! Are you applying to the Camden campus or New Brunswick?

If I have the option, Newark. I'm located in Union County. If not, New Brunswick.

Ok, that's great! Keep us posted!!!

I'm doing the RN to BSN program in NJ at Rutgers. My program isn't strictly online it's hybrid. A few in-class days with majority of it being online. I don't think it's a hard program in comparison to nursing school but I also wouldn't say its easy. It can be demanding working full-time while taking 3 full semester college courses (9 credits).

Does anyone know how long the RN-bsn program is for Newark? (couldn't find it anywhere on the site) Also, are they generous with financial aid? I am a NY resident and was just accepted. I applied to a few and this was my top choice but I'm trying to weigh pros/cons so this is one of my concerns...

I don't go to this program but I looked into it before I decided to go the traditional BSN route. I'm just going to give you the facts I know:

The program, when I looked into it, was the same at Newark and New Brunswick (I can't say if its been changed. I looked into it last year) and takes about a year - year and a half to complete. It is half online and half in school. The tuition will cost considerably more for you as a student who lives out of state. I can't say that they're generous with financial aid because that's need-based and goes by your income. You won't be granted a huge amount of aid if you make a decent amount of money now.

Rutgers is the cheapest school in the area that I looked into. I know this post doesn't answer all of your questions but I hope that helped some.

I'm currently in the RN to BSN at Rutgers Camden and the length of the program really depends on your previous education (ADN or Diploma) and your aggressiveness (part-time or FT). My friend that I went through the associates program with is graduating this May after just a year and a half. Before her ADN she had already taken a few of the required chemistries at Rutgers. I didn't have those chemistries so I'll be graduating this December instead which will have me completing the program in 2 years. Neither of us did 12 credits/FT semesters. We both did 9 credits each semester because we both work full-time.

Some of my classmates who graduated from Diploma programs require more prerequisites (which were required already for ADN programs) like statistics. I would talk to a program counselor to find out what classes you'll need.

Some of my classmates aren't rushing through the program either and are taking just one class at a time. So the length of the program is really dependent upon many factors.

Thank you for your info.. quick question.. were you able to take organic biochemistry and pathophysiology with your upper level nursing classes or did you have to complete them before? Did you take and graduate subsitutes and if so how were they? is the entire program online or do you have to go in at any point?

I have most of the pre-reqs except for those 2 and plan to do full time.
