Question about the teas test at hohokus school in hackensack,nj

Hello All!

I have a few questions regarding Eastwick schools in Hackensack, NJ. I am wondering if anyone can help me that is currently a student or applying.

I called the school yesterday to ask about what version of the TEAS test I would be taking, and I was told V3 and that there is NO SCIENCE to study for???!!! Is this right??!! Wouldn't it be important for the school to know if you have knowledge in science if you are looking to go to school to be a nurse?? Hey, I am not complaining because it is one less thing to worry about, but it makes no sense to me. :banghead:

I am currently studying for the TEAS exam and taking it next week. If anyone has taken the exam there recently, please let me know!!!! I am confused on what I should be studying exactly and what to expect. My math is really weak and I am doing what I can to prepare myself for this.

I actually used ATI TEAS V to study for the placement test and it worked out good for me. I am very nervous, yet excited because I really want to start school as soon as possible. I purchased the the McGraw Hill Nursing Entrance Exam book last night, which was highly recommended on here. I think both books are really good.

Someone else on here told me that V3 is going to be phased out. I don't know if I should go and get the V3 book if I do not have to study science. I did get a look at the table of contents in the ATI V3 study book, and most of it is in V5.

I have never been so confused!!!

I am currently in the 3rd module at HoHoKus. I reviewed the McGraw Hill Nursing Entrance Exam book and it was a fine review. No science review is needed. The medical science you will need is part of the program. The entrance test is just one criteria to entrance. Relax, try your best and you will do well.

The school is great and set you on a direct course to passing the national boards and a future job. Nothing is perfect, so there are areas for improvements just like any other programs. I can also say that the doors are open when you have an issue. The LPN program is intense and has a high rate of failure especially among those who are not dedicated 100% to intense study. Those who try to work or play too much during the modules usually do not pass all subjects. Wish you well....

Oh wow! Good for you! : ) If you don't mind, I have some other questions about the program. I haven't been in school for a while and I am ready for this. Is there anything that you found helpful in preparing yourself before you started classes? How are the instructors and tutoring? I understand that not everything is perfect in a program but I think this is definitely the best choice for me!

OK great!! Thank you for your help! Was the math really hard on the test? I am glad I dont have to go and get another book! Yesterday I was going crazy to find out what I am supposed to be studying. I am much more relaxed knowing what to study and that I my test is on the 19th! I thought it was on the 12th so I was kind of freakin out!

I would suggest clearing out whatever may be an obstacle for the next year so you can dedicate yourself to your studies.

Like any program, some instructors are really great and others are not so great. However as students you have to be responsible for the material....so just study. Ask questions when you do not understand. You need to learn how to budget your time to really study yet be able to relax and enjoy yourself :). Tutoring is available. Library has resources that help too.

Thank you for answering me :) I have definitely taken care of the obstacles. So at least I am on the right track! I am very ready to dedicate myself 100% to this program. I am lucky that I can go full-time in the day program so that will also help me enjoy it more too! I also have a great support system which is a great help!

My advisor called me today to check on my studying,which I really appreciate. He knows how bad I want to get into this program. Oh yea I was shown the library too! I'm glad the tutoring is available too. I'm impressed with this school. I've visited others and really was not that impressed. It just felt like they were more concerned with money then me as a student.

Can you tell me about the program? The website doesn't have much information. I wanted to know how much is tuition per credit and how long is the program.

If you choose to go full time day, it takes a year. If you choose the night program, it takes about 18 months according to the admissions councilor I spoke with. If you are interested in Hackensack, I spoke with Ozzie. He is really nice and will help you out.

You need to take a placement test to see if you are competent enough to take the TEAS. I studied from the TEAS book for the placement test. It helped. The placement test was only on Reading Comp, basic Arithmetic, and English Language. It was pretty easy. You need to score high on reading and english at least in order to be invited to take the TEAS.

Also, forgot to add that if you do get invited to take the TEAS it is $45 and non refundable. I was given about 3 weeks to study. I thought my test was on the 12th, but it is on the 19th. Seats fill up fast, so try to keep your date. Classes are about 30 students.

I am hoping I do really good so that I will not have to take it again. I called and asked about scoring. I was told you need to score 97% over all. So let's say you score 90% on reading, 90% on english and 30% on math, you will be able to take it again in a few weeks. If you score low on everything, you will be asked to take it again in a few months.

You need at 68% lowest to pass the math portion.

Looking at the info on the website I didn't realize they would charge so much!! I would expect that amount for a private 4-year college.
