How long does it take to receive RN license in NJ?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

I am a Registered Nurse in Florida. I plan on moving from Florida to New Jersey this year. I registered tonight on the NJ BON website, so I could read the application procedure and requirements. I am just wondering how long this process takes? Does it only take a few weeks to receive a NJ RN license? Or does this whole process take several months?

Hey here's my update! So I went into the BON last week to check on the status of my app. Found out there was a mistake on my app and had to fill out some paperwork to correct it. Then went in again today to check the status, and walked out with a license number!

When you go to the BON, just bring a photo ID to sign in and then go up to the 6th floor, sign in up there, then head to nursing office and they will help you from there. Hope you get your license soon.

Glad you got your license Lana12123!!

I went up to Newark August 13th. Filled out a blue sheet of paper and about 15 minutes later I was told my number was on the state website and I'll be receiving the hard copy in 7-10 days. Driving to Newark was so worth it!

Started endorsement process: July 1

Fingerprints received: July 21

License received: August 13

Hi Everyone

So I'm planning on getting a NJ endorsement of my RN license, but I didn't know it took so long. How can I speed up the process? Should I print out the application and go directly there to the BON when everything is ready to go? I am desperately trying to get this done before the harsh winter sets in !! Any advice would be very helpful

Going in person will not expedite the process. It may delay as your paper application will have to be manually enter and then QC'd by a second person before they can even start the process. Applying online is the fastest. Using Nursys to electronically verify your current license helps. All applications are mandated to have a complete state and federal background check with fingerprints which takes a few weeks from the time prints are digitally obtained. Then all complete applications require a review by board committee.

So submit electronic application and electronic Nursys license validation. As soon as you receive the background check info from the BoN via US Mail schedule you appointment.

Anyone successful in getting a license from the BoN already had an application in process and fingerprint/background check complete. Check the BoN website I heard they were offering temporary practice permits (for a fee) for nurses with pending endorsement if requested at the time of application.

Thank You JustBeachyNurse

Really helpful

They gave me the whole speech about how I had applied only a month ago and my application was complete for only about a week so it would be another 2 months, minimum.

Long story short, I drove to Newark that same day and walked out 10 minutes later with my license in hand.

 LOL! I love that 'Take Charge' attitude. Am gonna do same. i just registered online on their website and now am gonna complete verification of my CA license and fingerprinting. Once everything is sent, I definitely will do same.

yes! but I submitted my requirements for endorsement already and it's on there computer processing and they told me today when i called that they just printed my form for finger printing and ready to be sent in my home address. so does that mean i dont need ces?

I know this is 2 years ago, but Did you do the CES? How did your endorsement go?

I have applied for my RN license through endorsement from Texas to New Jersey 0n Dec 14th , still I don't have any updates . The customer care team keep repeating the same 4-8 weeks timing . I was curious why this takes so long , he told they will only start processing once they receive the CGFNS report . From that time it's gonna take another 4-8 weeks . It's sad to say that i applied varification through Cgfns because they told even if they have already a report sent to Texas state , they will send the new report after 8-16 weeks . 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. I strongly suggest this Cgfns should be removed from this varification process because they are one of the main reason for delaying the rn license . I got Texas license within 2 months only delay was from from this Cgfns . Do anyone know any agencies do this varification ??

@JustBeachyNurse Hi! So after processing CES licensure for endorsement, I still need to turn in an NJ application for endorsement right?

I realize this is an old post but I'm still waiting for my license! I tested successfully on June 16, 2018 and haven't heard a word. I have a job waiting but can't start til I have my license. Based on responses I found on this page I decided to call BON! What I found is that my license is completed but was "just sitting there" (their words not mine) The gentleman told me he would "send it up" (to where I don't know!) and "have it expedited". When asked if there was a problem he said "No, it's just sitting there!" So moral of the story is Call Them or you may just sit there! Also, I went from LPN to RN so I'm in the system with no changes at all! I still live at the same address, my fingerprints were digital in 09 so they're on file, I've had no disiplinary procedures or changes to my criminal bakground, I legitimately just got put to the side!

I know this is old but I figured I would post in case it helps anyone.

I took my NCLEX on June 27th and I found my license number online on July 9th. I had everything in (fingerprints, background check, etc.) before I took the NCLEX and I called to confirm that all I was waiting for were the NCLEX results and approval from the BON before I took the test. I then called the BON twice after I found out I passed NCLEX just to check in. I definitely think calling/going to the BON in person helps!
