NJCU ABSN 2014!

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi! Just thought I would start a new thread for NJCU, 2014 applicants! - Any thoughts/concerns regarding the application process or help from alumni is greatly appreciated! I'm applying to the Wall cohort for this May.

Hi tinemarie,

Don't worry... I just graduated too and I do not think you're crazy because it is better to get it done with.

Hey nadia89!

Let us know how the exam goes! I have to take it on the 29th and I'm quite nervous :nailbiting: Good Luck!

wow!! great to know! thank you so much for that. I called up NJCU yesterday and she did not mention that to me.

I'm stressing big time because my one online class apparently doesn't get graded until 2-3 weeks after the course is over. (It just ended 2 days ago.) I called up NursingCAS and they said once a school sends over the official transcript, it takes them 7-10 business days to process it and upload it to our online applications. Has anyone had an issue with items potentially not making the deadline? I called up NJCU and they were pretty blunt.

Hi All -

I applied to the JC Cohort for 2014. I submitted my application via Nursing CAS on Jan 1, and they verified my application as of yesterday (1/14). My overall GPA was a 3.4, however, my post-bach (including pre-reqs) was a 4.0. I am taking the HESI on 1/22 and I am quite nervous. I generally don't perform as strong on standardized tests, and fear that NJCU weighs this exam quite heavily.

Can anyone confirm that HESI scores will be sent directly to NJCU? How soon will they be received by the school?

It seems that NJCU (per their website) does not want to communicate re: application status, and that all communication must go through Nursing CAS. However, upon my application being verified, Nursing CAS sent an email encouraging applicants to check in with their schools regarding the status of their application. Has anyone had any luck reaching out to the school to confirm that their app looks good?

Lastly, when are JC applicants being notified of acceptance?

Thanks for any info and good luck!

Hi there JCCMA!

I don't do well on standardized tests either, but looking through my test prep book, I do not think it will be terrible (hopefully I don't end up eating my words).

I was reading some other threads about NJCU's ABSN in the past, and apparently some people did not find out about their acceptance for the Fall until July... and April for the May cohort... this was stunning to me. Seems like a torturous waiting game.

I have yet to send in my application (oops) because I just finished the last two of my prerequisite courses. Additionally, I'm waiting on references from my professors to be sent in :sniff:.

Good luck on your exam! I am also taking my exam towards the end of the month.

Welcome to the threads!

tinemarie - You're definately not crazy! I've been out of school now for 8 yrs, currently working full time, married, and have 3 kids (one of which is a newborn). If I get accepted, I'll have to quit and we're going to have to try to live off of one salary.

I'm praying everyday that I get accepted!!!

JCCMA - Yes- as from what I understand the HESI scores get sent directly to the school. I honestly think its sent electronically (but don't quote me on that). As for the timing, don't worry. NJCU rep had told me that as long as you take the exam before the deadline that's all that matters. I'm scheduled to take it Jan. 30th.

Do you guys think that the # of applicants will decrease this year with all the new admission requirements and application process?

sarsoora8 - I was actually thinking the opposite - I think that the number of applicants will increase. A lot of schools are moving to Nursing CAS, which makes it easy for applicants to send their apps to multiple schools with the click of a mouse, so even applicants that are not that serious about NJCU can still easily apply. It has the shortest pre-req list from what I have seen, and applicants will most likely already have LORs completed for other schools. So as long as they are willing to pay the application fee, I think many will apply to NJCU simply because it's another option within Nursing CAS. I could be wrong (and certainly hope I am). I would imagine that this would only prolong the wait-list process, etc.:(

WOW! I commend you! That's phenomenal! :)

Thanks tinemarie!!!

Question for everyone - I'm not sure if I'm understanding this NursingCAS application correctly. They received my transcripts on 1/3. I went online to see if my GPA has been calculated, and it hasn't. So I called NursingCAS and the representative told me that my GPA will not be calculated until my application has been "verified" which usuually takes 2 weeks after submitting.

So my question is - Does my application need to be verified by NursingCAS before it's submitted to NJCU or once I click submit my application is sent? I'm only asking for clarification because I'm worried about this due date considering I'm still waiting on my letters of recommendation. Does my application need to be submitted before the due date, or does it have to be submitted and verified before the due date? As long as I submit my application before the due date is that not good enough?

Sorry for all the questions!

I found this on the NursingCAS FAQs and it's getting me worried :(

"Your application is considered complete/verified by your designated programs when all of the following items are complete:

  1. All of your official transcripts have been received
  2. You have submitted your application and NursingCAS has received your payment
  3. NursingCAS has successfully verified your coursework"

Sarsoora8-

I too, am waiting on letters of rec, as well as official transcripts since I just finished two of my prerequisites earlier this week  (oops).

I actually had the same question and called up NJCU the other day. The woman on the phone told me that as long as I submit it through NursingCAS by the deadline, I'm okay!

If anyone has had a different response/experience from NJCU please do tell!!

Oh man...Thank you for that!!! I don't know if I would've been able to sleep tonight without some input.

I just finished emailing someone from NJCU - hopefully I'll hear something by tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted :)
