hey you guys. if you're from north jersey, bergen regional is hiring new grads. my friend recently is employed there and told me to apply there but its a 1.5 hr drive and then itll be like working 16 hr shifts. im really thinking of applying there bc its $35? wage better than around central but i used to commute 1 hr and work 12 hr+ in my last job and remembered i promised myself never to do something like that again (was very stressful when it rained and snowed and sometimes, i just stayed the night around the area) if you guys find something too, let me know. i think im just going to play the waiting game and get board certified and do some school while i wait and pray, hehhe. id like to get school done too.

Wow Thanks for the info. I am feeling so discouraged these days. How did your friend apply fax, in person or online? The hospital is in a nice area and the pay is good. I will try to apply too.

I've been licensed as an RN in NJ since August 2010 and haven't found work yet. I am in a BSN program, maybe that will help. I'm trying not to give up. I'll take anything as I am still working in housekeeping at a hospital that I've worked for 5 years. I'm BCLS,ACLS.PALS.and basic dysrhythmia certified.Any suggestions?

Merged threads re tight job market.

Difficulty for new nursing graduates obtaining first nursing position extends from Philadelphia to Boston area and has been this way since 2008 when economy started to tighten belts and healthcare employment cut to the bone.

Same thing happened in 1974 when construction dried up and DH laid off, 1984-85 in nursing + healthcare when DRG's + HMO's introduced with first wave "cost containment" occured. Current economic crises has decended across MANY areas: education, business, law, journalism immediately come to mind.

Nursing graduates most affected in this area are those from ADN programs. With increase of BSN candidates and desire to have best educated workforce, employers in Philadelphia health systems have moved to "BSN required" hiring.

Yes,and I keep applying with no luck. It is making me work harder to get my BSN quickly though.

How hard can it be? I just took my NCLEX yesterday and I already have calls from an agency and one from LTC, to return.

wow. what agency and which LTC? do you have prior healthcare experience? my background consist of being a car mechanic for 10 yrs and just school clinicals-- i am totally a new nurse on this. but to tell you the truth, im very optimistic too. i havent gotten any call backs yet but then again ive only applied to hospitals. i got some leadership experience and am finally getting all those certifications everyone else is recommending to get so hopefully someone will see something good. ive only started job hunting too so i guess, ill see in a couple of months? o, it might be location too. i mentioned on here earlier that bergen county was hiring new grads but thats 2 hrs away from me. ill get desperate when that time comes. congratz on passing and on finding a job!

My theory is that it will be incredibly hard to get into a hospital if I have no experience. So with that said... I am applying LTC and such to get some "experience" because some experience as an RN is better than none. I am in Burlington County. I am a new grad, no experience yet!
