B.A. and BSN

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi!

I just received my acceptance letter for an accelerated BSN program. I have my B.A. in psychology and I'm looking to go into psychiatric nursing. I have been told by several nurses from several hospitals that nurses who have duel degrees usually get paid more. Can anyone confirm?

Not so likely in today's cost cutting atmosphere.

they may not or may pay you extra for your bsn. i think the most is between 0.50 cents to $ 1 extra per hour for having a bsn. some facility don't even pay you extra for a bsn so i don't think they will pay you extra for your ba.

nothing wrong with asking your prospective employer though but most likely no.

good luck with your accelerated bsn program. which one are you doing, umdnj? rutgers?

i am planning on starting my rn to bsn soon even though i won't get anything extra for having a bsn at my current facility. they will reimburse my tuition though so that's cool. i just want to get it over with because if you look at the classifieds, they always say "bsn preferred".

I will be at UMDNJ =]

I wish you much success in your academic endeavors. With your background in psychology, you'll have an excellent shot at obtaining a position as a psychiatric mental health registered nurse.

Good luck with UMDNJ:up:

Thank you guys :) I've always had a strong interest in Psychology and mental disorders so I'm really looking forward to the psych rotation :)
