Admitted into Rutgers Nursing 2012 transfer student

U.S.A. New Jersey

Cheers, recieved email today informing me that I have been admitted into Rutgers Newark college of nursing for fall 2012. This is the regular program not the accelerated. I am Rutgers grad (2008) and in the interim went to Kean for about a year and this past year have been completing some prereqs at Rutgers and Essex County college. I applied as a school-school transfer student. I believe I will start at the sophmore level but I will double check that.

Now to those who are consdering applying to rutgers whether you are a rutgers student already, community college student, out of state student etc... and you are wondering "are my grades good enough, gpa etc... let me share what I have heard/know my own expereince

I am told that getting into Nursing program at Rutgers, whether out of highschool, transfer student etc... is competitve and with more and more people wanting to study nursing I am not that suprsied. Now if you check the Nursing Website it says you need a GPA of 3.3, if you get the actual paper brouchers about transfering into the Nursing program it says you need a 3.0 So clearly it is somewhere between 3.0 and 3.3 However upon talking to people who transfered into the Nursing program there gpa was about 3.7+ , I was told by them that Rutgers will not consider you if your gpa is less than 3.5 My gpa is 3.3 .... just 3.3 So if your gpa is not 3.7 and you feel despair, I would still apply anyway you never know.

So what got me in- my gpa isn't 3.7+ so there must be something else

-There is an essay portion of the application, I do feel like I wrote a strong essay

- I indidcated my passion. That I am taking the prereqs, I will continue to finish up the prereqs over the summer. Overall I indicated that I really wanted to be a nurse

- I currently volunteer at a hospital and I am a volunteer EMT-did that push the application into the yes catgory? I don't know but maybe

-Former student- Is there an edge for a rutgers grad returning back to school to pursue nursing? I don't think so, I believe rutgers does not give prefernce to what college you went to but something to throw out there

Like many of you applying to nursing school I am nervous as heck. My gpa is nowhere near the 3.7,3.8 etc... so my hopes for rutgers where not that high, but I did get in. Perhaps there is some truth to "gpa is not everything"

So what is the point of this post? To give hope, to simply keep applying. I did not put all my eggs in the rutgers basket I applied to many 4 year and 2 year programs. My grades in prereqs thus far- B's, nothing but B's I have not gotten an "A" in science since 2005. So hope, all I am saying to those out there who are not acing every prereqs and holding the 4.0 do not give up on nursing school, you have to try

I was also one of the few that was accepted as a transfer student for the Fall 2012 semester. My advice to people who didn't get in is too apply broadly to many nursing schools. Rutgers is simply too competitive. I've heard that in 2010 they got some 800 applications for 20-40 transfer seats. It's also regarded the top nursing school in the state from my understanding. It's affordable, convenient, and offers great clinical opportunities which could further lead into helping you land a job after graduation. If you don't get in don't sweat it, there are many other nursing schools outthere to choose from.

heh well I passed stats , had a good prof from rutgers but I did sweat ALOT-sleepless nights.... anyway dudetheman did you sign up for registraton yet? It will be july 26th at 9am-can't wait! .

And to reiterate what dude has said, don't put all your eggs into one nursing school be it rutgers or wherever, apply everywhere, cast that net wide.

Yes I did register, did u get an acceptance package in the mail yet?

no i did not recvieve anything in the mail from rutgers. Via email I first recieved the "congrats" from the Dean, "you made it" and I followed the link to confirm that I will be attending rutgers nursing in the fall. A few days later I went in person to the nursing office and talked to the undergrad coordinator (nice lady) and asked her, if any formal acceptance package will be sent in the mail-similar to what I assume most schools do when you get in. She told me "no, I would evntually recieve a follow up email with information detailing the upcoming registration". I did receive that email and I did register for the orientation on July 26,2012 transfer students. Still no formal accpetence package in the mail- I am now assuming that for whatever reason (costs maybe) Rutgers does not send out an offical acceptance package or perhaps the acceptance package comes after the orientation.

Today I did call (recieved no awnser though) to ask about the orientation; is there anything on my part I have to bring, the email, proof of acceptence into program, is this only for parents etc....so still waiting on that. Anyway can't wait til next week

This isn't for parents. I would bring the acceptance email you received just in case, however they will have a list of names of accepted students. Most likely since we are already rutgers students, an acceptance package may be unnecessary.

My other question is how do you tell which campus you were accepted to? It just says the college of nursing. I went to RU-Newark so i'm assuming, i will be attending the newark campus

Alrite so the nursing dept. returned my call, you are right the orientation is strictly for students. I was also told that you do not need to bring anything with you to the orientaiton, the email, proof of acceptance etc... That being said I will bring the email anyway. Looking forward to orientation, till Thursday!

As for the college, do you remeber which program you applied too-newark or brunswick? You have the choice of applying to either regardless of whether you are a newark of brunswick student, because I am already a newark I chose to stay in newark, though I could have applied to brunswick as well. I would call and ask, since you are accepted they should have your name along with the program you are going to.

Hello! I hope you're still visiting here, whatttdo4.

I have a question. While I had completed Calculus 1 and Calculus 2, am I still required to take Statistics?

from what I have heard you still have to do stats even though you did Calc 1 and 2, and calc is clearly "above" stats. In any case, to be sure I would give the nursing dept a call and find out.

Thank you!!

I didn't get my RN license yet working on my BSN now only have my AS! I will try Rutgers again for next year!! :crying2:

I am taking BSN classes at BCC, I am an LPN and plan to take as many BSN classes as I an before going to RN school at BCC. When is a good time to apply to Rutgers? I thought I had to graduate with my RN first?

Congratulations on everyone's acceptance! I am going into my senior year in the traditional nursing program at Rutgers and I just wanted to offer any help I can by answering any questions you may have. It is a tough program but well worth it so good luck!

Does anyone know if it would be possible to get into the rutgers brunswick program coming from a community college? ive done some research and from the looks of it people are saying that you cant get in because you dont go to rutgers. However i know someone who came from middlesex community college, applied for fall 2012 and got accepted . On top of this when you go to apply on the RU site there is no option for rutgers nb nursing only camden. I guess my best bet would be to physically walk into the rutgers nb school of nursing and ask for an application. All feedback is appreciated.
