See Director letter below:

NJ has CHANGED to issuing license renewal letter so RN's can renew license online. Please read the letter as contains code you need to access online website. They are no longer sending license renewal form unless requested. PA has gone to same system.

Additionally, fingerprints will be needed for licensure too.

In addition, don't you need 30 Nursing CEUs now to re register in 2008. How do you prove those CEUs? Do they all have to come from the ANA's AACN site? What about medical units that are given to MDs?? Do they all have to be in nursing?

The NJ State Board of Nursing new Continuing Education regulations for nurses (RNs and LPNs) were published May 1, 2006, in the New Jersey Register.

The new requirements are 30 contact hours every two years. Nurses whose license expires 5/31/06 will need to fulfill the requirement in advance of their renewal date of 5/31/08.

So what are considered contact hours ie CEU's?

I take Pals and Instruct ACLS every two years. PALS comes with a 15 CEU certificate.

Thanks
Mark

It is actually very easy to get the required hours. You get hours for taking BLS, ACLS, and any of the other certifications. There will be hours that your facility will have and you can get credit for.

There are also CEUs' that you can get for doing doing quizzes from nursing magazines. CEUs are what they are called for nurses. There are also a few websites that have courses that you can take on-line and you will get CEUs for taking them. If you are working in a hospital setting, it is actually very easy to get that number of hours every two years.

I was reading over these new requirements for RNs and LPNs, and it says that the courses for continuing education has to be presented by an agency that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). As someone who is thinking about becoming a LPN, would nursing journal continuing education articles and lectures in hospitals/nursing homes count for this requirement? Are those articles accredited by the NCCA? I went to the NCCA site, but I couldn't find anything about what nursing continuing ed. classes they approve of.

I was wondering, since there is such a nurse shortage in the U.S., why do schools only accept a small number of students each year? I know there's not enough staff, but why can't they get enough staff. What most of friends were talking about, why can't nurses that require these CEU's teach classes to fulfill them so new and incoming nursing students have the opportunities to get accepted, instead of waiting year after year for an acceptance letter. Just a thought.
