positive training experiences for new nurses at jersey hospitals

hi all, I'm currently a student set to graduate in May. I've been trying to read, interview at various different hospitals so that I have a job ready when I graduate. I want to set myself up for a good training experience, and it's really hard to tell (just by interviewing) which hospitals really do offer good training and are concerned with helping to foster your skills. Let me know if you've started out anywhere you felt was a positive experience and if you'd recommend training/starting out working there as a new grad. there. Thanks!

p.s. I'm looking to start on a med/surg floor.

When you are interviewing, ask if the hospital has an education department. You may be able to meet with them as part of the interview process. I started in a very small hospital and I had the same concerns. The education department has been a great resource and support system, they have even come to my unit to teach and walk me through procedures that are unfamiliar to me. Bottom line, I have a feeling that wherever you decide to start, if you show them that you are serious about learning and want to be a good nurse they will be more inclined to help you get there. Good Luck

Hi, I work at one of the hospitals of St. Barnabas Health Care System. I think it's a great place to start. They offer extensive training, especially for new grads. They have 2 weeks in the classroom and then about 8-12 weeks on the floor, depending on which unit. They also have nurse educators who check in on you and determine if you need less/more training. Where in Jersey do you live? They have hospitals in North, Central and Southern Jersey. Good luck.
