New Grad interested in working in psych

I'm very much interested in working in psych. Anyone have any input regarding Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital? I see them advertise occasionally--good place to work? hire new grads? Any other suggestions for a new grad interested in working in psych? Thanks for any input.

That's great! Congratulations! Can I ask where? How did you get the job? Apply online, in-person?

Sure, it's at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. I applied online,, but they have a really good online application process. You create an account and then you can check the status of the application. They are really good at updating it too, in fact I knew I was going to be interviewed before they even called to set it up.

The nurse manager on the psych floor did say that working in psych right out of school won't help you later on if you decide that psych is not for you. This made me a little nervous, but after talking to old professors and other nurses they don't think thats the case. So I decided to go for it.

So far so good. I really like what I am doing, the involuntary unit should be opening soon and thats the unit I was hired for. I'm excited for it, and nervous at the same time. Not really sure what to expect. Some say it will be about the same as the voluntary others think it will be more intense.

How are things going with you?
