New Grad ASC salary?

by JMRN09

Hi NJ nurses,
After months of searching, I have an interview scheduled next week with a large ambulatory surgery center in central jersey. This is pretty much my dream job and I never expected to get into the OR as a new grad especially in this economy. Besides being scared of blowing this interview due to nerves (at this rate I am going on one interview q 6 months), I realllly have no idea what to expect with salary. The cost of living here isn't cheap, and the MINIMUM i could take is 40K due to my loans, mortgage, etc etc.
I understand the whole pay cut due to not being in the hospital, but is 40K reasonable to ask for?
Hours are M-F with full benefits.

Please offer your suggestions, or advice on how to negotiate salary... the interview is coming up and I need HELP!!!!!!

THANKS and New Grads please don't ever give up! Look outside those hospitals!

Are ou an RN or an LPN? This seems to be a very low starting salary either way.

Hi Lucas,
Thank you for your input..I am an RN...it's a relief to hear that 40K sounds low. I guess I just figured it would be low since my best friend just interviewed for another position at a doctor's office and was offered 35K for a full-time position.

Yeah, 40K is pretty low. It only average about $19.23/hr. Try to ask for $55K and if your future employer says no, you can always negotiate

That would be amazing...My dream job and 55K? Not bad considering the day I got the phone call I was filling out an application to Starbucks. Wish me luck.

The avg salary in a large market is around $25-27/hr. Asking for $55K is around $26.44/hr which it is on the high end. If you can manage to neg a salary of no less than $52K, it comes out to $25/hr which is on the low end BUT at least you have a job in this tough economy

Doctors offices typically pay a lower salary. I think 55k is a reasonable salary for the responsibilities you will assume in an ambulatory surgeryu center. Good Luck.

Hi all, I am a new grad also whom just landed my dream job in an ambulatory center in NY as an OR nurse. I am ecstatic, I was only out of work a little over a month post-licensure and it all just happened for me. The power of prayer and a good support system is key for a new grad these days, especially in the tri-state area. JMRN09 you can do it, how did your interview go? I succeeded in mine with confidence and charm! Wish you all the best!!

Congrats, Ilovenursing09!!!!!! I wish you the best in your new job!!!

I had the interview and all I know is I did the best I could. Interviewer was very empathetic/concerned about the 'new grad job situation,' and kept me there for a looooong interview. I am waiting on them to make a decision. I know that even if I don't get the job; it was still a good experience. We'll see what happens...I sent a thank you note and also called a few days later to ask a question. I am just praying and trying to remain positive. I really want this job...I want a chance!
CONGRATS again!!!!!
