Excellent school. Program is clinically based, so you will learn mostly by doing. Get as many pre-reqs done as possible, most especially A&P done before you start the summer fundamentals course. Some tough CIs but none who are "out to get" anybody. PM me if you have some specific questions.

Is it true the first thing they do at Mountainside is certify you as a CNA and put you out to work?

It's an excellent program. Tough but worth it. There will be no slacking. the Instructors are all excellent, you can, and will learn something good from them all. The best instructors are the toughest instructors. Watch out for nursing 4, 3 clincal rotations in one semester . Don't throw out your nursing 2 stuff you will need it for nursing 5. good luck.

I personally went to Bergen Community College, but I work at Mountainside Hospital. I went through orientation and a few certification classes with rn's who went there--and they all seem to really know their stuff. So--as far as I can see--it's a good school. =)

I am starting there this August. One of my previous bosses went to that school along with one of the per diem nurses that still works here. They both said that it was a VERY GOOD program. I mentioned them to 3 MHSON faculty, and they remembered them (they graduated about 8-9 years ago). I met someone last week who went there and she said that the professors at MHSON go in depth with what they teach, which is an advantage over other professors from other schools (where a BSN or ASN is given). A few other people in passing spoke very highly of the program. Basically, I have yet to hear anything average or negative about the school or program. This is the first school that I have been able to go to and call and have EVERY question answered without recieving an attitude behind it. They also respond to e-mails in a timely manner. They definitely take their time with you and give you individual attention.

No they do not put you out to work. However, they do require that you have CNA skills before beginning the program. It used to be a 3 year program but now it is a 2 year program. They offer the class which started 7/2 for BNA (basic nursing assistant). They used to incorporate it into the first nursing course but since the program change they want you to come into it with certain knowledge. The hospital will hire those who want to apply part-time once the class is complete. It is a choice and an opportunity that I think can only help.
