Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing - Likes or Dislikes about program

Hi All:

I am applying to Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing. I was hoping if any of you went there also you could give me some feedback. Even if you didn't go there but you know someone who did..any information will be helpful.

I would like to know what you liked / disliked about their program. What should I expect if I am accepted?

Thanks for your help!!

I am starting there this August. One of my previous bosses went to that school along with one of the per diem nurses that still works here. They both said that it was a VERY GOOD program. I mentioned them to 3 MHSON faculty, and they remembered them (they graduated about 8-9 years ago). I met someone last week who went there and she said that the professors at MHSON go in depth with what they teach, which is an advantage over other professors from other schools (where a BSN or ASN is given). A few other people in passing spoke very highly of the program. Basically, I have yet to hear anything average or negative about the school or program. This is the first school that I have been able to go to and call and have EVERY question answered without recieving an attitude behind it. They also respond to e-mails in a timely manner. They definitely take their time with you and give you individual attention. It is such a welcome change!

The MHSN program is common sense and reality based. As stated above, the faculty is there for you and very fair. And while some of the instructors have their quirks (most of which make you smile), none are burnt out. There's one that so good that when you say her name, someone almost always adds "rules".

The standard conversation with RNs when we show up for clinicals is:

RN: "Where do you go to school?"
me: "Mountainside."
RN: "Good, how many patients can you take?"
