Jobs while in nursing school? cna?


Hi all - I am finishing up my pre-recs before starting nursing school (2 yr. evening program) and I hate my job!!! The idea of doing it for 2 more years makes me sad! But unfortuantly not working is not an option, so I was wondering what one has to do to become a cna? That seems like it would be a good job for a nursing student and I would assume it pays more than a part time retail job....thoughts? Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? I have no idea where to start, I am assuming there is training involved w/ being a cna. Any input would be greatly appreciated! TIA=)

I dont know about the school you will be going to. The school that I am attending, anyone can work as a student tech after passing fundamentals of nursing. The pay is $12.10 per hour. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the info, I will have to look at it. I will either be going to Muhlenburg or Trinitas. If you don't mind me asking where do you go to school?

I work at Muhlenberg and am attending school in September. They provide you with the necesary teaching in order to work there and pay between 11 and 12 depending on shift. It's a pretty good place to work.

At Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing they give a basic nursing assistant course before you start the nursing program. They also allow you to work at the hospital while in school. Earlier in the year I went to the vocational school where I did the Medical Assistant program. I went Sat and Sun and was done in 6 weeks + 2 weeks internship. If you want to go during the week, it will be about 4 weeks. I did the programs in NY but I know that NJ has many programs. Essex County College gives the course but it's EXPENSIVE. You shouldn't pay more than $700.

Hi!
I just wanted to give you some advice. I too am a nursing student. I just finished my 1st semester of the nursing program last spring, and just got a job towards the end of the semester at our local hospital as a nursing assistant. I can't put into words how much this job as helped me! Everything you learn in the 1st semester you will pretty much do everyday at work (except for giving out meds of course) and it will get you to feel VERY comfortable with the patients, talking to them, seeing medical equipment e.t.c. Also, if youre lucky the nurses will kind of let you follow them around and show you a thing or two! Hope that helps and I say definatly go for it! I work overnights and get paid $12/hr with night diff.
