From Sandy Kerr NJSNA Nursing E-NEWS A New Jersey State Nurses Association Member Service THE PROMISE OF NURSING FOR NEW JERSEY GALA EVENING • Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 Today, our nation faces the most profound shortage of nursing professionals in its history. An estimated shortage of more than 800,000 nurses, as well as a growing scarcity of nursing educators, threatens to disrupt healthcare in New Jersey. Thanks to the support and generosity of the sponsors of the 2003 Promise of Nursing for New Jersey event, we are starting to make a difference. In 2003, we raised over half a million dollars through our event, and because of that funding thousands of nurses will be practicing in New Jersey soon! However, we still have a long way to go and we need your help to ensure a healthy future for the nursing profession and our communities. Johnson & Johnson and The Promise of Nursing for New Jersey Steering Committee are pleased to host this year's gala event, dedicated to raising funds to address this critical shortage. Your generous support will be used to continue to fund nursing student scholarships, graduate nursing education fellowships to prepare nurse faculty, and grants to New Jersey area nursing schools to help expand their program capacity immediately. All money raised will continue to remain in New Jersey. We hope you will join The Promise of Nursing for New Jersey as we celebrate nurses and their extraordinary contributions to our community. Please help us make a difference by supporting this important event. Sincerely, The Promise of Nursing for New Jersey Steering Committee CONTRIBUTION Tables of Ten $7,500 each. If you cannot attend, you can make a contribution. All monies raised will go to the Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association (FNSNA), which is a 501(c) 3 charitable foundation, to support nursing education. The FNSNA’s tax ID # is 13-312312. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent that the contribution exceeds the fair market value of goods or services provided at the event. All donors will receive a letter acknowledging their contribution and the amount of the fair market value of goods or services received. RSVP by January 9, 2006—Contact us with questions, please call 732.562.3310 or email NursingFundraisingEvent@hcsus.jnj.com. Search Tags None | | | Advertisement Sponsored Links | | | | No. 1 |

sorry but didn't have $750 to attend. I don't think most ordinary staff nurses do. So how many ordinary staff nurses did you see that sent themselves???? Was it all corporate??? If so, where was the VOICE of the down in the trenches staff nurse???

If you attended the Promise of Nursing for New Jersey event on Wednesday, January 25th, click Promise of Nursing for New Jersey
to see the photos!
Think of the $750.00 cost as a scholarship donation + meal. That's what the Promise gala is: a fundraising event for nursing scholarships within each state. Many health systems, universities, businesses donate and send staff members to attend.
My health system requested that staff nurses and front line managers attend-- knowing my activisim efforts within organization + nursing, I was asked to attend and bring a staff member. I sat with several nurses I've worked with since 1977 all of us started as bedside RN's who later became clinical mangers. I brought one of my staff as reward for her years of service--who also marched with me through Philly streets for a nursing rally 4 yrs ago.
Look at the photo's above to see those who attended -many young faces there.

do you know how 1 can apply to get some of that money?
although i liked it, i did find it a bit patronizing. i would have loved to hear the ceos of the various hospital systems praise and thank their nurses.

Re: Jan 25th,06: THE PROMISE OF NURSING FOR NEW JERSEY GALA EVENING
Because both my husband and I work, I am not eligible. On paper, there is no financial need. Of course in reality, there is a need! LOL
grrrrr....
