If You Live In Monmouth County But Work Out Of County

I worked at Riverview as a PCT while in school, moved to SC, now moving back to Monmouth County to work in Manhattan at MSCHONY. I have never heard anything good about Bayshore, from nurses to family/friends who have been patients. I recommend Riverview or Jersey Shore UMC if you don't mind commuting to "the OC"

Steve, what do you expect your commute to be from Monmouth to Manhattan. I'm considering moving to Monmouth (perhaps Freehold area) from Brooklyn and was wondering if commuting to NYC was realistic. Have you considered Centrastate or Monmouth Medical Center? Also what is MSCHONY?

Bayshore is a very very small community hospital. they tended to transfer people to other hospitals if they couldn't handle the cases.
Jersey Shore is a very viable alternative, and depending on where in Monmouth (northern like Hazlet, or southern like Howell) there are many hospitals within a 30-45 min drive. CentraState, Kimball, OMC in Brick, Deborah H&L...or, there's Raritan Bay (either one), Robert Wood Johnson @ Hamilton...lots of opportunities

You could do 2 years of anything. This was my first hospital experience and it was not bad. I enjoyed the small feel of a community hospital as a beginner. But as far as professional growth and education go, Meridian is better. Remember 2 years is not that long over your career and Bayshore was a good "starter job" as there were good mentors there at that time. I have been gone for 2 years now and things are changing.

what do you expect your commute to be from Monmouth to Manhattan?

From where I live on the shore, it takes me 50-65 minutes each way to commute. It takes longer working weekend nights, since you are heading back into the city with all the nightlife crowd.

Have you considered Centrastate or Monmouth Medical Center?

Centrastate is 40 minutes away, and a small hospital. MMC didn't have a neonatal open-heart, major surgical or ECMO service, which is what I wanted.

Also what is MSCHONY?

NY Presbyterian's Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NY - W 168th and Broadway - just over the GW Bridge.
