HS student looking to become CNA?

Hi. I am an EMT-B currently and want to obtain a CNA certificate.

I reside in Monmouth county NJ and will be a senior in HS, and 18 y/o this september. I was curious to know if I could even obtain a CNA certificate yet (I think you have to be 18).

Regardless, how would I go about doing all this (getting the certificate)?
How long will it take?
How much will I be making?
Could I work during the school year?

and just for kicks, are there any other certificates I can get? Besides CNA?

What about ER Tech? Just curious.

Some other certificates I have seen in NJ are EKG tech or phlebotomist. I don't know if these are offered at any schools near Monmouth, but its worth a try. Also, if nursing interests you, considering a nursing program at a community college might be beneficial.

You do have to be 18 to be a CNA in NJ. You may be able to take the class now and wait to take the state test once you turn 18. I am also in Monmouth County and I am just finishing my CNA class next week. My instructor is also teaching a class through Ocean County Vocational HS, so obviously those kids are in high school and taking the class, so why couldn't you? I would call up one of the places that offer the CNA class and ask them. That would probably be your best bet. You may not even be able to take the class right away either. When I was looking for a class, there were waiting lists. I tried signing up for the January classes at Brookdale but I had to wait to take the May class, soooo age may not even be an issue. You may be 18 by the time you can take the class. Pretty much, your best bet would be to give the places a call.

My class took 2 months, 2 days a week. I know there are other schedules offered though, like more accelerated ones or evenings classes. I just got a CNA job making about $12/hr and I am sure you could find work part time during the school year. Maybe weekends though because most places have shifts of 7a-3p, 3p-11p, and 11p-7a.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! Good luck!
