How hard is it to get into Bergen Community College RN DAy program?


I'm taking my pre-requisits there and I'm thinking of trying to get into their program. I never really considered it because I had heard that you need a 4.0 GPA plas get a 95% on the entrance exam. The 4.0 I think is doable but a 95% on an entrance exam...I don't now. I suck at standardized exams. 85% ok..I think I can manage..but 95%..not too sure.
Anyone go there or know anything about it? Thanks!

Just do the best you can. the cut off score changes every year, depending on how everyone does as a whole. So if the highest score was 94%, then they will admit X number of students (starting from 94% and down, until they meet their occupancy). Those admitted need to have the required gpa.

It has always been hard to get into BCCs nursing program, that is not new. Only half of the admitted students will actually graduate, its a tough program, so they try to take those who are best qualified. Study hard, take a chance. If anything, you have a better chance at getting into the day program than the evening program, since day has more seats.

I just took the nurses entrance exam there last week. They told us we would not hear anything until the end of June. The use the ACcuplacer test, not the NET. And IrisRN is correct, they take the top scorers of the test - not only if you have a 95% or above.
Also, they won't even invite you to test unless you meet GPA requirements. The cut off for applying for the day program is March 1, so if you did not apply you have to wait until next year. Unless you are interested in the evening program, which you apply to soon, if not now. You can check the dates online.

Hi I also went to bergen community college to do my pre reqs. I couldn't get to the college on the day of the test as kids were sick and ended up getting into holy name hospital. I couldn't be happier. 2 of my friends that got into bergen failed out first semester during fundamentals, they always did better then I did in class and I could not believe that they had failed out. I'm finishing up my first year at holy name. Love the school and staff. It's small and instructors are available all the time to help you. You still have time to apply there as a back up as they do the net test once a month on a saturday. Wouldn't hurt you always good for a plan B. Where are you on your pre reqs. are you almost done!!!

Well, to tell you the truth. I would love to go to Holy Name. I actually applied there and then took the Net while I had a horrible stomach virus and 102 fever. Needless to say, I bombed the NET. I have a 4.0 in my pre-requisits, but they could not get passed the fact that I scored 9 points lower on the net even though I told them what happened. I even asked if I could apply again next year..NOPE! ONce you take the NET at Holy name..it doesn't matter if you find a cure for cancer..they are not letting you take that test again..ever! I think that is absolutly rediculous that they never ever let you take it again. They did accept me in the LPN progam but I said no because I can go somewhere else and be an RN in the same time. BUt yes, HOLY name was my first choice...but things didn't go my way, so what could i do?

Oh that is terrible that you had to take the test when you were so ill. I would have tried to rescedule the test.
I am accepted into the fall class at HNH, but they are pretty expensive compared to Bergen, and I am not working while I attend school. So, hopefully I will be accepted at Bergen.

Lori, In retrospect I would have rescheduled the test. I guess that was my biggest mistake. I just thought that the material was eay and that I would get through it even though I was not feeling well. I knew as I was taking it..that it was not a good idea because I could not concentrate feeling sick to my stomach. Now whenever I hear about Holy Name..I feel horrible, mad at myself.

Just make sure you brush up on some algebra before you take the test. This is from collegeboard.com
Computer Adaptive Testing

ACCUPLACER is an adaptive test. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level.

When you take the test, just take your time, and read the questions carefully. The only timed part is the essay, but the timer doesn't start until you start to type, so sit and think out what you will write.
SO, have you finished all your pre-reqs?

Thanks so much for the information about the test! I'm so paranoid about these tests now..lol. I'll definitly be brushing up on all the info before hand. I finished all except Micro and Chem which I will taking in the fall. I'm taking A&P 2 right now ..I have Dr. Seleh. I'm enjoying A&P 1 and 2 so much. I actually already have a BA degree..nursing is a career change for me.
What kind of essay do they ask you to write?

My essay question was if I could spend a day with a famous person (living or dead) who would I spend the day with and why.
I also had that same question on my college placement test. Back then, I picked Alice Paul. This time - my mind went blank and I sat for 20 minutes without coming up with a good person (even though they don;t care who you pick - they are evaluating your writing skills).
