The good and the not so good

by dsanto3

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone went to Ocean County College and can offer any input on which professors you loved and which ones to avoid. Not just nursing either, I'm interested in knowing for my prereq's also. I hope to get some good input as I will have to register soon for the fall classes and I know the good classes get filled very quickly.

Thanks bunches!

When responding with actual names of professors, please use the PM option....

Thanks

One of the things you'll find out about the program at OCC is that information trickles down very slowly...to everyone. Sometimes the professors don't know what they will be teaching until the last minute. And what a professor teaches this semester may not be what they'll be teaching next semester (or same semester, next year)

Its also a matter of what kind of learner you are. Some will lecture your head off, others will rely on powerpoint and it seems like all they are doing is reading what's on the screen, while still others are really dynamic and are always putting their personal life experiences into the lecture to help you remember something. Same with tests.

And, the professors I adore and love vs. the ones I have/had trouble with may not be the same for you. No matter who you end up with, just remember that the program is hard, its demanding, it's emotionally draining, but its not impossible! Keep your eye on the goal, and make the commitment to do what it takes to pass, and you'll make it through. Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I have a few professors that even my LPN teachers have told me are wonderful, so I will try to get them. Some fellow students have mentioned some others that are interesting and don't demand unrealistic things and others that no matter what you do it doesn't seem they are satisfied. Keep in mind I am even talking about prereq's. There is a math teacher in particular that a lot of people said Oh, try to get so and so, you will really enjoy that class.

I know everyones style is different, I just think sometimes like you stated...if I can find a teacher that happens to teach in the style that enables me to learn more, all the better! I happen to be a visual learner. I love when a teacher is animated and doesn't just expect you to read and fend for yourself. I like the stories it somehow makes me feel a bond with them instead of feeling intimidated. I know it's silly.

I do know that after accelerated LPN, I just have to stay focused and I can accomplish anything. Thanks for your well wishes. I can't wait until the day that I am 3/4 of the way through the program as you are. I admire you and hope to be there myself one day. Thanks again and good luck to you also!

In the nursing program, you have no choice of professors. You get who they give you.

As far as other professors, word of mouth is the best. Ask the other students. You'll soon find out who is good and who isn't.

Good luck and see you around campus
