? about applying for jobs

Hi everyone,

I have a question that I am having a hard time finding the answer to. I am in my final semester of nursing school and was told that I should start applying to jobs now. I could work as a graduate nurse right after graduation and then as soon as I pass the NCLEX I would change over to an RN. But apparently according to this person, I could do everything an RN could do.

I have never heard of this and am not even sure if it is true. I have never heard of anyone working as a graduate nurse. Is it the same as a nurse extern? If anyone has any knowledge on this tipic your response is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I know the hospital that I work at hires graduate nurses (nurses that have finished nursing school but have not yet passed the NCLEX).

At my place of employment, the graduate nurses are buddied up with an RN (usually the same RN that will later be their preceptor). They are able to do everything that the RN does with the exception of starting IVs or administering meds.

Hope that helps.
