by JodiLynn87 Feb 22, '12Hello! I am planning to apply for UNH's DEMN 2013 cohort and was looking for some advice as to the average GPA accepted? I know that they say above a 3.0, but I was wondering if current or previous student's of the program could offer any insight. I have an undergraduate GPA of 3.67 and experience working as a Med/Surg Unit Secretary. Any advice is greatly appreciated! I'm getting pretty anxious!
Thanks!

- Mar 8, '12 by rioravenHey! I am a UNH DEMN in my last year (yay). Your GPA should be fine and all healthcare experience is a plus. Don't get anxious, just be confident in your abilities and your past experience. Go for it & good luck!!
- Apr 14, '12 by JodiLynn87Thank you for your advice, Rioraven, and congratulations for being in your final year!! If you don't mind could you answer one more question for me? When it comes to the personal statement, how long was yours when you applied? Do you know how long other student's statements were? Mine is 2 pages, single spaced. It was originally 3 pages, single spaced and I had emailed the nursing department to see if that was a good length and they recommended that I shorten it up a bit. Thank you for your help!

At least it was when I was in the program. Are students responsible for finding their own preceptors? I'm curious about their program as well.
to the OP, that is an fantastic GPA. And I agree with what they recommended with regard to your personal statement. I think mine was a page-page and a half. - Jun 5, '12 by celticsgirl17Melmarie23 how was the program for you? What are you doing now/did you feel well prepared for work after DEMN?
- Jun 6, '12 by melmarie23program was fine. Passed the CNL exam, but not practicing in the role. If I ever want to in the future, I'll have to re-test (their requirments for maintaining the CNL without re-testing are kinda loaded/hard to get when many hospitals dont have this role yet).
I am bedside in L&D/Maternity. May eventually go back when I have time for my WHNP or CNM. That or perhaps I will seek out eventually moving into a managerial/unit educator/director role. After the necessary beside experience of course. Right now, I am just enjoying working with my mommas and babes.Selene006 likes this.
