NLN scores for NHCTC-Stratham?

U.S.A. New Hampshire

Published

hello everyone,

i'm planning on applying to nhctc-stratham for admission into their nursing program for this fall. i got my nln scores back on saturday: in english i got a 99%, math 76%, and science 85%. i've heard that you need high nln marks in order to get accepted to stratham... do you think my marks are high enough?

other background info about me as an applicant: i have not yet taken a&p or microbio, but i have a bachelor's degree in spanish language. i am an lna and have been working full-time as an lna for nine months, and i have experience in long-term care and acute care (i now work on a med-surg floor at exeter hospital).

any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. i really want to be a nurse, and i really really hope i get accepted to the program! thanks.

Your scores sound pretty good. Your scores are real close to mine, and the lady at Rivier College said my scores were excellent...you actually got higher in the verbal than me, too. Good luck!!!

Jennifer-I'm left over from last year's waitlist. I had a great NLN score. I know of one person (you can look up the previous posts from Feb. 2007) who was in the 99% and also got waitlisted last year. We both did not have the 20 points for A&P. I have found the real key to getting in is the 20 points for A&P I&II. If you have taken them, you should be in a good place. I wish you well and hope to see you in the fall.

What exactly is the 20 points? How does that work?

Thanks!

Sorry for the late response. You should call Admissions to double check but if my memory serves me correctly (yikes) they take your composite score, add 20 points to it if you have completed BOTH A&P I&II with at least a C and 5 points for your references. If you take the NLNs more than one time, they will take your best score from all tests within the time limits (ie 24 months). I hope that helps but, again, call admissions and I'm sure you'll get a better answer.

Hi Jennifer, nice to meet you.

I graduated from NHCTC-Stratham last year. It's true that your composite score is more important than your individual marks. The vast majority of the students who got into my class had composite scores in the 98th percentile or better. They do take other things into account however, like experience, prereqs, etc. Having experience at Exeter is a big plus as Exeter is one of the finest hospitals in the region.

When I got in I had scored in the 98th percentile composite (though, with the exception of math, I think my individual marks were in the low 90s), but hadn't yet done A+P 2, microbiology or human growth and development. I also had several years experience working in a resthome and had been promoted to an MNA.

Good luck!

Chris

My scores were a little higher than yours, I got an 85 in math, 86 in english, and a 92 in science. I got into the program for this upcoming fall.

However, I have all of my pre-reqs done except for microbiology. My GPA is also flirting near the 3.0 line.

The best thing that you can have when you apply from ym experience is good NLN scores and having A+P 1-2 done with awesome letters of recomendation.

Good Luck!
